Chapter 3.

Kehlani.

After I decided to give August my number which was a week ago we have been texting and talking ever since. He told me he was only in Oakland for a week and I was ok with that, but he wasn't. He made sure he stopped by everyday that he was here to see me perform, he didn't care that I was singing the same song everyday for 7 days straight.

My phone rang and it was August, he's been calling me for what felt like every 5 minutes and whenever I asked him why he was calling he would always say he just wanted someone to talk to and I was surprisingly ok with that.

I picked my phone up and answered it.

"Hello."

"Whatchu' doing shawty?"

"The same thing I was doing 5 minutes ago August."

"And what was that Lani?"

"When did you start calling me Lani?"

"When I started calling you every 5 minutes na' answer my question please Lani."

"I'm watching my little sisters August."

"Oh,ok and what did you say that nickname was you have?"

"Lani Tsunami?"

"Yeah das it whea' you get the tsunami part from anyway?" He asked and I could tell he was smirking.

"Stop being nasty August." I laughed. "It's a nickname my friends gave me after we watched the movie Johnny Tsunami."

"Oh ok na' I get it and I wasn't being nasty."

"Yes you were."

"I'a try to come see you again aight shawty?"

"Ok and how come you never answered me yesterday when I asked you what you did for work?"

"Cause baybeh you'on needa know what I do just yet."

"Ok I guess you're right I mean we haven't known each other that long and you don't have to explain yourself to-"

"Lah' baybeh if you don't calm yo ass down." He laughed. "I'a tell you the next time I see you aight?"

"Ok, I'll talk to you later."

"Aight Lah' Tsunami I'a talk to you lata'."

Before I could even say anything about him calling me that he hung up. Even though August wouldn't tell me what he does for work I had a good idea as to what it was. Living in Oakland I've seen a lot of things before I should have and if I didn't know what anything else looked like I know for sure what a drug dealer looks like and August was no doubt a drug dealer. But I appreciate the fact he had enough respect for me to tell me in person.

August.

After I got off the phone with Lani I went to the warehouse which stored all the drugs and dropped off what I had gotten from Oakland. The whole drive all I kept thinking about was lah' shawty. She wasn't like these New'awlins girls.She was smart,sweet,caring,got a hell of a singing voice, and don't even get me started on her body.

Although I've only known her for a week she gotta thing that I can't quite put my finger on, like she just got this thing that attracts me to her.

I pulled up to my brudda Mel girlfriend Chandra's house. I was glad she let a nigga stay with her. I walked in and leaned on the kitchen counter.

"Wassup Aug?"

"Nothing, whea' my nieces at?"

"At school Aug." She laughed. "Whea' else they gonna be at 10 o' clock?"

"I'on know they coulda' had plans or something."

"Shut up Aug." She laughed while taking out a pot from the cabinet.

I took my phone out and called Lani on facetime.

"Wassup lah' baybeh?"

"Hi August how are you."

Kehlani.

"I'm good lah' tsunami." He spoke in his strong New Orleans voice.

"August why do you keep calling me that?"

"You'on gotta be so formal witcha' boy. Call me Aug."

"Ok well Aug why you keep calling me little tsunami?"

"Das yo name ain't it?"

"Boy who you over thea' talkin' to?" I heard a woman's voice say.

I instantly thought: I know he don't have a girlfriend and he talking to me. I was interrupted as a woman popped up on the screen.

"Hey I'm Chandra, Aug's sister in law." She said standing behind Aug with her chin on his shoulder.

"Oh um hey I'm Kehlani." I smiled and waved, feeling a little embarrased.

I watched as Aug got up and went to his room.

"August you don't have to tell me what you do for work."

"And why not?"

"I already figured it out, you're a drug dealer." I kind of whispered.

"How you know that?"

"You always get up and leave out the room when you get a call, you always have to be certain places at certain times, and you always have lots of money on you that a person with a regular job would not have."

"Well you figured me out." He sighed. "If you wanna stop talkin' ta me I guess I'a understand."

"Aug are you kidding me? I've seen people do worst things than sell drugs so you're like a angel in my eyes."

August.

As soon as I heard that I realized why I had such an attraction to her, she was down fa' me and not the kinda I'm only gonna stick around until things get rough type of down she was really stand by my side through it all and not care what anybody had to say kinda down.

I didn't even have to listen to her to figure that out I could tell just by looking in her eyes. Shawty was doing something to me, I didn't wanna rush things with her cause I didn't wanna scare her away so I just planned to keep it cool with her until I felt like we were both ready to be in relationship.

Or maybe she was already ready.
