⌗ 29:

Dear Diary,

It was already late—exactly 10:52 pm., to be exact, when I told everyone to wrap up for the night. Some of the guys wanted to keep practicing with players from other schools, but they’ll need the rest for tomorrow. It’s good for them, though, playing with others outside our team. They pick up new skills that way and build connections, too.

Suna even showed me a video after our shower time tonight. It was of Atsumu trying to befriend Sakusa Kiyoomi, that ace spiker from Itachiyama everyone talks about. From what I saw, Sakusa didn’t seem too interested. It’s funny because they’re both top players and rivals in a way—both had their share of the spotlight after the last Interhigh, so I guess it’s only natural that things stay competitive between them.

Meanwhile, as captains, Tsukasa and I have been getting along well. We first really talked after our Finals match at Interhigh, and I think we understand each other. We share a lot of the same viewpoints, especially when it comes to handling teammates who can be, well, a handful. It’s nice to know someone else gets what it’s like.

Before I turned in for the night, I reviewed the notes Iwaizumi-san took during practice. We’ve won most sets so far, but when it comes to teams like Itachiyama and Kamomedai, things aren’t as consistent. Sometimes we come out on top, other times we don’t. None of us are backing down, though. That much is clear.

Her notes were detailed, and I couldn’t help but notice the small doodles on the side. It made me appreciate how much she’s put into this camp, so before we headed to our rooms, I gave her a lemon-flavored candy as a small thank-you.

Ah, I almost forgot—we were seatmates on the bus ride from our prefecture to Nagano earlier today. It was a five-hour trip, and we mostly sat in comfortable silence, talking now and then. For some reason, the others seemed especially interested in us sitting together. I don’t understand why. They’re odd.

Goodnight for now.

Yours truly,
Shinsuke.
