⌗ 31:

Dear Diary,

Just as I expected, the second day of camp was the hardest yet. We pushed ourselves to our limits, and it shows in everyone’s progress—not only our team’s, but the others' too. Our last match of the day was Inarizaki versus Kamomedai. I played the first two sets because a few of our members didn’t have the energy left to keep up. As captain, I stepped in where I was needed, filling those gaps so our team wouldn’t fall behind.

Even though we’ve spent time studying Kamomedai’s style through footage and in the last InterHigh, I’m always amazed at how strong their defense is. Hoshiumi, the one they call the “Little Giant,” was especially impressive. He’s a rare player: balanced, clever, and driven, a natural talent like Atsumu and Sakusa.

Playing against players like them, even if just for a few sets, reminds me how lucky I am to compete at this level. I can tell they’ll go on to achieve even greater things, likely representing Japan one day, and I’m sure they’ll rise to their own expectations. It’s easy to feel small compared to guys like that, but I remind myself—and maybe my teammates too—that talent alone doesn’t make greatness. It’s dedication, hard work, and a drive to improve. They deserve the recognition they get because they’ve earned it, bit by bit.

Tomorrow, we’ll have a lunch feast to wrap up camp. The thought of it brings me a bit of relief—after so much effort, a meal shared with everyone sounds just about perfect.

But right now, I’m barely keeping my eyes open, so that’s enough for today.

See you tomorrow.

Yours truly,
Shinsuke.
