Chapter 13: Babysteps
-------------------------------------------------

(Time skip: Next morning)

Your POV:

"You're not serious, are you?" A disappointed sigh escaped my lips.

"I'm sorry, (Y/N). I didn't plan it but I have to stay for a little longer. It won't be forever." Mark tried to reassure me on the phone but I was just way too frustrated to know that he won't be back as planned.

"Alright.. but don't you dare extend it again!" I warned.

"I won't, I promise!" Mark chuckled in response, he knew exactly how much I was missing him.

"So.. everything still alright with you and the Ipliers..?" He asked carefully all of the sudden. My own smile dropped. I knew exactly that he asked this to see if I told him anything new about Dark. Making me remember what happened yesterday..

"Uh.. yeah, everything good. Nothing new happened." I tried to keep my tone as casual as always. I never lie to Mark but.. for some reason I had the feeling that I just have to do it right now. I still don't really know what's up with Dark after all.. even though after yesterdays events, I'm pretty sure that Dark somehow.. 'likes me'.

"Oh, okay. Well, let me know in case anything bothers you." I could hear Marks warm smile through the phone. God, I miss him so much.

"I will. Now get back to work, so I can see you soon again!" I giggled, managing to to earn an other laugh from Mark.

"Sure thing, boss! Bye!" Just as Mark hung up, I put my phone back into my pockets before getting back into the kitchen where Wilford was flipping the last pancake.

"And? Anything new from our Markimoo?" Wilford asked cheerfully with a little tease in his voice.

"He's staying away a little longer than planned." I replied softly, earlier frustration creeping back.

"Aw, don't be sad!" Wilford said, noticing my expression. "You still have us! And maybe it's a good thing that Mark won't be back so soon."

"Why?" I asked, my brows furrowed.

"Because now maybe you and Dark can figure out what's going on between you two without Mark interrupting." He explained in a quiet whisper so the other Ipliers, that were already setting up the table, wouldn't hear any of this.

I glanced at Dark who had just sat down at the table. After yesterday, he seemed a bit distant, as if he was lost in thoughts. He was probably replaying yesterdays events over and over in his head just like me.

I looked back at Wilford, sighing "Maybe.." I murmured, grabbing the platter of pancakes and placing it on the table as everyone began to dig in. Wilford sat beside me, with Dark across the table.

As I started to eat, Google approached and set down a letter beside my plate "You've got mail."

Curious, I put down my fork and picked up the letter, noticing that it didn't look like typical advertisement. I opened it carefully, revealing an invitation.

"Wedding invitation.." I muttered, feeling Wilfords gaze.

I opened the invitation to see who it was coming from before I instantly rolled my eyes. "Of course.."

"Who's it from?" Wilford leaned in, practically buzzing with curiosity.

"Ashley. She was the typical popular girl in school who loved to bullying everyone. Her family is rich, she always had the most popular guy by her side and she loved reminding me how much better she thought she was." I replied, a trace of bitterness creeping in. "There's no way I'm going."
