Chapter 10: The Confession

The air was electric as Y/N and Dua navigated the vibrant streets of New York City, the scent of baked goods wafting through the air from the bakery they were heading to. The bustling sounds of laughter and chatter filled their ears, a stark contrast to the quiet tension that had settled between them earlier.

As they approached the bakery, the enticing aroma of freshly baked pastries made Y/N’s stomach rumble in anticipation. The small shop was adorned with colorful treats, a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. Dua’s eyes widened in delight as she scanned the display cases, each confection seemingly more tempting than the last.

“Look at that croissant!” Dua exclaimed, pointing excitedly at a flaky, golden pastry. “I need to try that!”

“Then we must get one,” Y/N replied, grinning at Dua’s enthusiasm. “And maybe a couple of cupcakes, too?”

“Now you’re speaking my language,” Dua said, nudging Y/N playfully. “We should definitely get a selection! You only live once, right?”

Once inside the bakery, they were enveloped by the warm, sugary aroma. The display cases glistened with an array of pastries, cakes, and cookies, each more delectable than the last. They took their time deciding, the casual atmosphere allowing them to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

“Okay, how about we get that croissant, a couple of cupcakes, and one of those giant cookies?” Y/N suggested, her mouth watering.

Dua nodded enthusiastically. “And don’t forget to grab a couple of macaroons! I’m obsessed with those!”

As they placed their order, Y/N could feel the earlier tension begin to dissipate, replaced by a comforting familiarity. But as they sat down with their colorful spread of treats, the weight of their earlier conversation lingered in the back of her mind.

“Alright, taste test time!” Dua declared, breaking the silence as she took a bite of the croissant. “Mmm! This is everything I dreamed it would be! You have to try it.”

Y/N laughed, leaning in to take a bite. “Wow, that’s incredible! I can see why you’re obsessed.”

They continued to indulge in their pastries, exchanging bites and laughter, but Y/N felt the pressure building again. She couldn’t shake the feeling that they were teetering on the edge of something significant, something that needed to be addressed.

“Dua,” Y/N began, her heart racing. “About earlier...”

Dua’s playful demeanor shifted slightly, her gaze intensifying. “Yeah? What about it?”

Y/N took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. “I really enjoyed our cooking session, and the time we’ve spent together. I feel like we have this connection, and I—”

“Y/N, I feel it too,” Dua interrupted, her voice soft but steady. “It’s been so easy to be with you, like I’ve known you forever. But I also don’t want to rush things.”

The sincerity in Dua’s eyes sent a thrill through Y/N. “I agree. I just... I don’t want to ignore what’s happening between us.”

Dua reached across the table, her fingers brushing against Y/N’s. The warmth of the contact sent butterflies fluttering in Y/N’s stomach. “I think we should explore this, whatever it is. But I also don’t want to complicate our professional relationship.”

Y/N nodded, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. “That makes sense. We should keep it light for now, see where things go.”

“Exactly,” Dua said, her smile returning. “I like that idea. Let’s just enjoy each other’s company and see what happens.”
