The five keys glinted in Alexander's hand as he approached the portal, their surfaces etched with symbols representing each of the Godsworn's trials. Each key had come at a price—through courage, doubt, unity, and sacrifice—and they held the weight of their journey so far. The other members watched in tense anticipation as Alexander fitted each key into its respective slot on the portal's ancient frame. He gave them a confident nod and turned the last key.
A surge of energy pulsed from the portal, lighting up in brilliant hues, yet the portal didn't open. It flickered, stubbornly sealed as though mocking their efforts.
Alexander frowned, glancing back at the others. "It should be working... we have all five keys."
Lumina, who hovered close by, tilted her head, her wings casting a soft, glowing light around them. "This doesn't make sense. The five keys are meant to unlock the way. Perhaps... something remains unseen."
Just then, the ground beneath them rumbled, and an intense energy filled the air, growing heavier with each heartbeat. The shadows around the portal deepened, and a towering figure emerged from the darkness—a fearsome being clad in dark armor, his eyes blazing like embers. Horns curved from his helm, and his body was armored with scales that shimmered like metal under the dim light.
The figure's voice rumbled through the cavern. "I am Drakalon, Guardian of the Portal. Only those who demonstrate not only strength but unity may pass beyond this threshold."
Darian let out an exasperated sigh, folding his arms with a tired expression. "Oh, come on, man. Another fight?" He shook his head. "We just survived five brutal trials."
Drakalon's fiery gaze narrowed, clearly unimpressed. "Those trials tested your individual strengths. But before you enter the Underworld, you must prove you can stand as one."
Selene shot a look of determination toward her teammates, stepping forward and readying herself. "No more complaints, Darian. Let's do this." Without hesitation, she cast Kiss of Love, locking eyes with Drakalon, hoping to enchant him with her charm.
But Drakalon merely laughed, a deep, rumbling sound that echoed through the chamber. "Your charm is useless against me, girl. Did you truly think I would fall so easily?"
Selene's confidence barely wavered as she smirked back at him. "Laugh now, Drakalon," she challenged, her eyes flashing. "But you'll want to be ready when the real fight begins."
Inspired by her boldness, Aeris stepped forward next. She raised her hands, and vines sprouted from the ground, twisting and writhing as they surged toward Drakalon. "Let's see if you can handle Nature's Grasp!" she called, the vines wrapping tightly around Drakalon, pinning his arms to his sides.
But Drakalon flexed his powerful frame, and with a brutal shake, shattered the vines. "It will take more than that to bind me, child of nature!"
"Fine," Darian said, not wasting another second. He nocked an arrow on his bow, its tip glowing with a brilliant light, and took aim. "Time for a little music to lighten you up," he quipped, releasing Harmony's Arrow. The arrow sailed toward Drakalon with a shrill whistle, leaving a trail of light in its wake.
