The heavy stillness of the cavern pressed down on the group, disrupted only by the faint hum of energy fading from Alexander's Thunder Gauntlet and the subtle vibrations caused by the shattered remains of fallen golems. The Godsworn stood motionless, their focus locked on the silver-haired figure before them.
Darian's breath hitched as he stared, disbelieving, at the woman in front of him. "Luna?" he whispered, his voice barely carrying through the stillness. The memories rushed back—of late-night hunts, laughter under the moonlight, and the silent, comforting presence that was once his closest companion. But now, standing before him, was a version of Luna that felt both familiar and unsettling.
Alexander, observing from behind, cleared his throat and stepped closer, his hand hovering near his weapon. "You know her?" he asked, his tone cautious, eyes narrowing as he assessed the stranger.
Before Darian could answer, Selene stepped forward with her arms crossed, a teasing smirk playing on her lips. "Oh, he knows her all right. She's his lover—or maybe... his ex-lover," she added, her voice laced with curiosity and mischief.
Aeris frowned, glancing skeptically at Selene. "And how exactly do you know that?"
Selene tilted her head with a knowing look. "I am the Guardian of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Believe me, I can tell when two people's hearts are bound, even if only by memories." She gave Alexander a quick, almost shy glance before quickly looking away, her cheeks faintly pink.
Before Alexander could respond to her sudden glance, Thalor stepped forward, his deep voice cutting through the tension. "Enough games, Selene. We're in enemy territory, and trust isn't given lightly here." His blue eyes locked onto Luna with a steady, unflinching gaze. "Darian, if this is someone you know, then speak plainly. But if she's a threat, you'd better let us know now."
Darian finally tore his gaze away from Luna, his expression pained. "Luna was once the Guardian of Artemis. We hunted together under the moonlight, a team of two. She was... shy, quiet, but always strong. One night, she went to the Underworld without a word, no warning." He swallowed hard, his voice breaking. "I thought she was lost forever."
The chamber was heavy with silence as Darian's words settled over the group.
"Wait, hold on," Selene said, her voice laced with disbelief. "You're saying there are other Guardians? I thought it was just us—five chosen by the Olympian gods. The Godsworn. That's what we were told!"
Aeris's brow knit in confusion. "But Artemis is an Olympian, isn't she? Why would she pick a Guardian separately? Does this mean there are more gods choosing champions we don't know about?"
Thalor rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "It's possible. Maybe not all the gods agreed to the same plan. Zeus, Poseidon, Demeter, Aphrodite, and Apollo empowered us, but what if others went rogue and chose their own Guardians in secret?"
