The house was empty, not even Nesta or Cassian were around. Adela was confused until Azriel walked outside. "No." She spoke.
"Only to Feyre and Rhysand's house."
"Why can't they come here?"
"They have a baby Adela, babies don't travel well." He smirked.
She squinted her eyes at him. But secretly she was happy that he was playing, making this seem normal. She was about to say something back but the cold wind rushed through her hair as she stepped out. Like it was pushing against her because it missed her. Like it was welcoming her back to being out of the library. Gods it's been too long since feeling rushing air. She tilted her head back with a smile on her face, completely forgetting about Azriel and allowing herself to feel the chill creeping down her body. She couldn't get enough of it as she breathed deeply, allowing it to fill her lungs. Oh how she missed this. How she missed the air of her... Home.
This was her home. And she has yet to see any of it other than this house. So she looked at Azriel who was waiting by the edge and took a deep breath. "Okay."
Something in Azriel's chest leapt. He didn't actually believe that she would say yes. But she walked towards him and waited for him to open his arms. "I can winnow when we get to the boarder-"
"No... I want to fly."
He looked into her eyes before nodding and opening his arms. Adela stepped forward, feeling his arm around her back. She let it anchor her, as long as it was around her nothing can break her. He dipped down and with ease he lifted her and held her against his chest. She could feel his warmth radiating off his body. Feeling his heart beating, and when she placed her head against his chest she could also hear it. It was strong as it thundered in a rhythmic beat.
Azriel could die. He could throw himself off this cliff and die and he would have lived a happy and full life. He never wanted to let go of Adela, he wanted to live in this moment forever. But when she was truly settled against him he began walking closer to the edge, and with a nod of Adela's head he shot up into the air.
She didn't scream, but closed her eyes as the rush hit her stomach. She prayed she wasn't going to throw up, it was like she was a kid again, learning how to strengthen your stomach from it. But when Azriel evened out she peaked from her scrunched eyes and audibly gasped. The stars, they shined even brighter up here, they seemed to move, dance across the sky that was more than just a plain blue. The colors seemed to bleed into each other as the white trails of the stars painted across it. It was like a dream as they passed the constellations she recognized from her mother's stories. She began to laugh, truly laugh, nothing could compare to the feeling she felt as she stared at them.
The wind was rushing through her hair again, pressing against her body. She tilted her head back, closing her eyes and just feeling. How she missed this. She thought of her mother and her flying, the thrill, the rush, the freedom and peace it gave them. An unfaltering smile plastered on her face as she thought of it. Azriel couldn't help but smile as well. In this moment she was truly and utterly beautiful. In this moment he no longer denied it...
She was his mate. And he was beyond lucky to be able to have her.
Adela felt Azriel's emotion of love and looked up. He adverted his gaze forward, he wasn't ready to admit it. Especially not to her, he wanted her to come to him. So she looked down at the village, no. It was more like a city as Rhysand called it, glowing with not only lights but life. She could hear the voices, the laughter as they passed by. It made her smile and know without a doubt there was something else she was fighting for...
Velaris.
Azriel turned, the wind gushing through them. Adela loved it, the rush, the wind. She wanted to relish in this moment forever. But Azriel slowed and landed as gently as possible. Adela still got that stomach churning feeling when he gently placed her feet on the ground. She didn't want to let go yet so she leaned a bit, making him think she was dizzy. He held her tighter, but leaned into her ear and whispered, "faker." She giggled before leaning back to look at him, but not yet letting go of him. Azriel had a smile plastered on his face. There was no hiding it anymore, not with her. So true emotion shined on both of their faces.
