The Monday morning air felt fresher than usual, or maybe it was just Kazuha's mood. As she walked into school, her heart raced with a mix of excitement and nerves. Her mind kept replaying the kiss she shared with Yunjin during the basketball game. Everything felt different now—new, warm, and a bit scary.
Students bustled around her, some still half-asleep and clutching coffee cups, others already chattering loudly. Kazuha scanned the crowd, looking for one person in particular. Her gaze landed on Yunjin, who was leaning against her locker, deep in conversation with Minji and Hanni. Yunjin's red hair was tied back in a messy ponytail, and her smile lit up her face.
Kazuha felt a wave of warmth spread through her chest. She hadn't realized how much she'd missed seeing that smile over the weekend. Summoning her courage, she approached the group, her heart pounding with every step.
"Hey, Zuha!" Hanni greeted, her cheerleader uniform already catching a few envious looks from passing students. Minji stood beside her, arms crossed but a playful smirk tugging at her lips.
"Morning," Kazuha replied, her voice a bit breathy. She tried to keep her composure, but the way Yunjin's eyes lit up at her arrival made her heart skip.
"Good morning," Yunjin said softly, a little smile spreading across her lips. There was a flicker of something more in her eyes, something that hadn't been there before, and Kazuha knew Yunjin was thinking about the kiss, too.
"How was your weekend, Zuha?" Minji asked, her tone teasing. She had heard the rumors circulating the halls about the game, and judging by her amused expression, she was dying to know the truth.
Kazuha felt her cheeks grow hot. "It was... good," she replied, her eyes briefly meeting Yunjin's.
Hanni's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Oh, come on, 'good' doesn't cut it! We heard you two were the talk of the game. People are still buzzing about it."
Kazuha laughed nervously, her gaze drifting toward Yunjin for backup. Yunjin took the opportunity to step closer to her, their shoulders brushing. "What can I say?" Yunjin said with a grin, her confidence radiating. "We had our moment, and it was pretty unforgettable."
Minji raised an eyebrow, clearly enjoying the tension between the two. "Unforgettable, huh?" she echoed. "Care to share more?"
Yunjin laughed, her voice easy and free. "I think the crowd did enough talking for us, don't you think?" She gave Kazuha a reassuring look, and Kazuha couldn't help but smile back.
Just then, the bell rang, signaling the start of the first period. Hanni groaned. "Ugh, time to pretend I understand math," she said dramatically. Minji rolled her eyes but nudged Hanni forward.
"See you later, lovebirds," Minji teased as she and Hanni walked off, leaving Kazuha and Yunjin standing together in the crowded hallway.
Kazuha felt her nerves settle as she looked up at Yunjin. The warmth in Yunjin's eyes made everything feel right, even amidst the chaos of school. "Walk you to class?" Yunjin offered, her voice soft and inviting.
Kazuha nodded, her smile widening. "I'd like that."
They started walking down the hall, side by side, and Kazuha couldn't help but feel a thrill at how natural it felt. Their fingers brushed as they walked, and she knew that whatever happened next, they would face it together.
As they made their way through the crowded hallways, Kazuha found herself hyper-aware of the curious stares and whispered conversations around them. Students leaned in to exchange gossip, and some even sent knowing glances their way. The buzz from the basketball game hadn't died down, and now, with Kazuha and Yunjin walking side by side, it was clear that the rumors were true.
