The apartment was quiet when Kazuha unlocked the door, dropping her keys onto the table with a tired sigh. She'd just come back from a long day of classes and her shift at the coffee shop, her limbs heavy and her mind buzzing with exhaustion. All she wanted was to curl up with Yunjin — if Yunjin was even home. They barely saw each other anymore, with their schedules at college rarely overlapping, and any spare time they had was usually swallowed up by their part-time jobs.
But tonight, the lights were on, and the faint scent of something sweet filled the air. She looked around, surprised to see Yunjin sitting cross-legged on the couch, a guitar on her lap and a warm smile on her face.
"Hey, Zuha," Yunjin greeted softly, setting her guitar aside and patting the spot next to her. "Long day?"
Kazuha nodded, a tired but genuine smile creeping across her face as she dropped onto the couch. She leaned into Yunjin, letting out a deep breath as Yunjin's arm slipped around her shoulders.
"Guess what?" Yunjin's voice held an edge of excitement, her eyes sparkling as she glanced at Kazuha.
"What?" Kazuha asked, tilting her head curiously.
Yunjin grinned, reaching over to pick up her guitar again. "I wrote something for you." She adjusted the guitar, her fingers finding their place on the strings. "It's been on my mind for a while... just something I thought you'd like to hear."
Kazuha's heart skipped. She sat up, her exhaustion momentarily forgotten, as she looked at Yunjin, anticipation fluttering in her chest. "You... you wrote me a song?"
Yunjin nodded, her cheeks flushed but her eyes steady. "Yeah, I did. Just... listen, okay?" She took a breath, then strummed the first chord, her voice soft but clear as she started singing. The lyrics spilled out, warm and honest, each word carefully chosen and crafted with Kazuha in mind.
The song was a love letter, tender and raw. Yunjin sang about the little moments they shared, the sacrifices they made, the quiet comfort of coming home to each other even after long, tiring days. She wove memories into the lyrics — their first date, their silly late-night talks, the way Kazuha's laugh could light up even the heaviest of days.
Kazuha's eyes began to mist as Yunjin's voice filled the room, wrapping her in a warmth that melted away all the stress of her day. It was as if Yunjin was reading every thought she'd had, all the feelings she'd been carrying about how hard it was being apart so much and how much she missed these small moments with her.
As the song came to a gentle end, Yunjin looked up, meeting Kazuha's teary gaze with a shy, vulnerable smile. "I know things have been... busy, and I just wanted you to know how much you mean to me," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I might not be around as much as I want to, but I'm still here, Zuha. And... I love you."
Kazuha wiped at her eyes, laughing softly. "You don't know how much I needed that, Jin," she whispered, leaning forward to rest her forehead against Yunjin's. "Thank you... I love you too."
Yunjin leaned in, their lips meeting in a soft, lingering kiss that said everything they couldn't fit into words. And in that moment, all the challenges and the distance melted away, leaving just the two of them in their own little world, with the promise that they'd always find their way back to each other.
