It remained a simple chalked drawing, earning both disappointment and confused looks at the failed attempt.

"Huh," Agatha and You exclaimed simultaneously, both equally surprised the ritual had not worked.

You were certain it would, for you both had felt it, especially you.

"Some feedback for you. It did not take this long last time." Agatha explained, seeing the uneasy look on the faces of her fellow witches.

As the witches argued about who was off-tune, you could not help but look at a worried Agatha. The Ballad never truly had to do with having the perfect voice or being in singing harmony with one another, but rather the magic and the intentions of the casters.

Even if Agatha was powerless and Sharon was a human, the other witches should have been enough to summon the door, especially with you present.

You could not help but bite your inner cheek, trying to think what went wrong or anything else you could do.

Your time was almost out. The Salem Seven will be by your doorstep anytime now.

At that moment, seeing the worry and even fear that Agatha was trying hard to hide, you started to make up your mind.

Road be dammed, you were not going to abandon her now. You glanced at the steps leading up and slowly started walking towards them.

The Road plan did not work, but it was not the end. You could still fight, and while you had promised to refrain yourself from going overboard, you were ready to make an exception.

You had never fought the Salem Seven, and going against all of them was not going to be easy, but you would damn try, even if it meant you might die in the process.

Too many times have you remained quiet and tried to hold back the power you had manifested, trying to prove to both humans and witches that you were not a threat.

Too many times had you held back... Too many times had you left Agatha on her own...

Never again!

Agatha noticed where your gaze was locked, and as you walked towards the stairs, she noticed your white magic faintly crackling between your fingers.

She didn't have to read your mind or talk to you to understand your thoughts. It did not settle well with her, either.

The former witch knew you were willing to fight for her, but that did not mean she was going to leave you alone. She was going to face the enemy who specifically had a vendetta against her.

If it had been anyone else, she would have gladly skipped to the next town, leaving them behind to fight and most likely die.

But you were not like everyone else.

You actually meant something to her, even though she often hid her feelings behind sarcastic replies and cocky tones. You meant much more than you might think, and she was not ready to lose you, not when she could do one more thing.

And so she tried to insult the other witches and cause them to blast her. All they had to do was to attack her once, continuously, and then she could take their powers for her own; at least then, she would not be that defenceless.

However, Lilia ruined her plan by exposing Agatha's secret behind her curse, and yet... the divine mother seemed to still be by her side.

"What is that?"

"Was that there before?"

The two questions made you freeze with one leg on the very first step and look towards the door drawing.

The lines were glowing, and two metallic door rings seemed to have appeared while the cement floor had been replaced by dark wood, forming two closed, heavy old doors.

You moved towards them, helping Agatha lift them, and you were greeted with a familiar glow and a twisted stone ladder leading deep beneath the earth.

"Agatha!" Teen's voice was heard as he called out her name in panic, climbing down the steps two at a time. He stopped halfway, noticing the open doors that were not there before. "Is this it? Is this The Road? Because we should really, really go, like, right now."

The sound of inhumane screeching reached you all, and you could feel every hair on your body standing on end in response.

Everyone got the message, and you all entered and climbed down the stone road one by one. Agatha closed the door as she went last, keeping away whatever creatures were after her.

You had entered before her, and you had remained back, waiting for her to catch up. Once the wooden doors turned to a stone ceiling and the screeching sound was no longer audible, you knew you were safe.

Agatha let out a sigh and pushed some strands off her face before catching your gaze. She could see the worry in your eyes, which she often found adorable about you.

This childish innocence you always carried, the inner child you had managed to keep within you despite the hardships of your life.

She offered you her signature smirk as if she had not almost panicked just a moment ago.

"Come on, sugar," she said and gently grabbed your wrist, her long finger wrapping around them; her skin was relatively cold, but so was yours. "We have some trials to face,"

You managed to grace her with a small smile, one that she had been hoping to see on your face for a while now.

"Let us shall then," you agreed and started to lead her down the steps, never trying to free your wrist. "Though, Ags," you continued, using your nickname for her.

"Yes?" She asked all innocently, a play she had mastered over the years.

"Teamwork this time, remember?"

Your steps were in sync as you climbed down the stone ladder, your voices gently echoing across the stone walls and illuminating light blue stones in them.

Agatha scoffed and tried to brush off your words. "When I am not a team player?" She asked, but the look you gave her above your shoulder made her drop her smirk. "Fine, fine. I will play along. "

This satisfied you, though you knew it would be trouble for her to live up to her words. The fact that she would try was reassuring enough, for now, but that did not mean you would drop your guard.

The Road had a way to test everyone in unique and often cruel ways.

You still remembered your last trials, and if it weren't for Agatha's invite, you would have never agreed to walk down the Road for a second time.
