After the bottle was opened, Agatha did the favour of pouring the red liquid into all the glasses. By the time yours was filled last, the bottle was empty, and you realised you had slightly less quantity than the others.
You looked at the others, all standing around the table and watching the wine-filled glasses; none too eager to try it, and many waiting for someone to make the first move, ensuring nothing was in it.
Surprisingly, that someone was Sharon, who grabbed her glass and emptied it in one go. You watched, impressed, as this mannered lady tossed her head back and made the alcoholic liquid disappear in seconds.
"I have had a very hard day. Do not judge me." She commented, and you lifted your hands faintly up, showing you were not going to.
Suddenly, the dead clock, which was not far away, came to life and started counting down from 30 minutes.
By instinct alone, you moved your hand faintly and pressed it against Agatha's. There was something about the ticking sound of th timer that made you feel uneasy, a warning deep inside your magical core.
You felt her fingers gently touch yours, showing she shared the feeling, but once the witches looked at her, she withdrew her hand and put on a fake condiment smile, though it was not the best she could do.
"So..." she started, grabbing her glass. "To harbingers of doom?" She asked, lifting her glass.
Everyone exchanged a look, hesitant but knowing they had no choice, followed suit.
"To the prize," Lilia said, and everyone brought their glasses forward, letting the faint clinging sound echo in the rather silent room.
Even Teen tried to join by pretending to hold a wine glass of his own since he was underage and he was not going to be drinking.
The group might be witches, and some have questionable background choices, but you all drew the line at underage drinking.
None knew what was meant to happen, so Sharon suggested you all head for the couches and wait.
You were unsure how that was a good choice, but you did not argue since you had no clue how to solve this trial.
It was way different than the last time you had participated.
You sat next to Sharon on one of the blue couches, feeling the soft cushions embracing your form, and you held back a moan.
There was something magical about comfortable couches, where you could let yourself rest and forget any pain you might have from a tiring day.
Crossing one leg on top of the other, you spread one hand at the back of the couch and merely took a moment to cherish the soft furniture, unsure when you would have that luxury again.
You glanced around the room, spotting Jen sniffing the wine, Lilia taking a few sips, and Alice just finishing the last sip in one go before being asked questions by the teenage boy that both fit and did not fit in your little group.
In the end, Sharon chose to speak once again, clearly not truly comfortable with the silence and the sound of the clock counting down.
"Okay, so a witch is really just another name for a bad girl, is that right?" She asked as she drank her refill, which had somehow magically appeared in her glass.
Around the same time, Agatha had joined by spreading her body sideways across the back of the couch, right behind you.
Her long dark hair tickled the side of your cheek as you leaned back but made no attempt to move it, somehow enjoying the chance to be closer without truly having to show it.
