Chapter 4: My Warder

I see Caembarin, homes decorated in gold accents, stone walkways, greenery in every corner, towers upon towers, and in the middle of it all, is my home. 

As I walk along the city streets, people stop and wave, I am greeted with a friendly smile wherever I look. 

I enter the front gates and head straight to the throne room to see my parents and notify them that I am finally home. As I walk the last pair of steps that lead to the door, the moment I walk in the room I stand in front of the King and Queen. 

"Your Majesty, I come to inform you that I am home", I say with a smile 

"Daughter you're finally home, lets go have some dinner and tell us what you have been up to", the king says, at the same time as they start to walk my way. They give me both a hug. 

"Go on ahead, I have to thank Ser Brandon and his sons for escorting me back. And I have to find Lucian, I will meet you in an hour or two" I say to my parents. 

"Very well, I'll see you for dinner then sweetheart", my mom says to me, as they walk away. 

I turn around and face Ser Brandon and his son, " I want to thank you for all of your help, and for the bravery that you have shown, and I will stand by my word and your sons will be part of the royal guard, so if you will please present yourselves to the training ground tomorrow morning,"

"Yes my princess, thank you very much," Ser Brandon Says 

"We will not fail you, we will be the best knights at your side," says Cassian his son.

I am walking the corridors of the palace, looking for Lucian. I missed him, and I want to tell him what I found and that he will have to go with me from now on, every time I leave the palace. Since I have seen that I am easily recognized, I need someone to keep my safety in mind. 

I have not selected anybody to be my warder because I always thought that Lucian would become mine. I have finally decided to ask him if he is willing to bond with me. It is a lot to ask since now he will know how I am feeling all of the time, and I will know how he feels. It's a bond stronger than a man and wife, than a brother or sister, but I wouldn't want to share it with anybody other than Lucian. Hopefully, he feels the same way. 

As I make my way towards his room, I can't help but feel anxious and excited at the same time. I don't know what it is, he has always felt like home to me. We grew up together he is the only person that knows every aspect of me. 

I stand outside of his door and knock starting to feel butterflies in my stomach. I see the door open and there he is standing in his pajamas with a sleepy look on his face, his hair is messed up, he was probably on watch at the tower last night. I scream and jump into his arms. 

"LUCIAN! YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH I MISSED YOU!" I say. I hear him chuckle a little and holds me tighter against his body. "I missed you too sunshine, I was wondering when you would come back home, and if I was going to have to go to the white tower to get you. he says.

"I wouldn't have been opposed to that, you know I would have loved to see you," I say 

" Yeah I know but I also knew that you had a lot to learn and that you were doing very important things to maintain the balance in the world," he says "Plus I didn't want to bother you" 

"You could never bother me, trust me there have been times that I wish you were with me, you wouldn't believe how much the dark ones have tried to kill me and almost succeeded," I say. His gaze hardened a little. He looked me in the eyes. 

"If you needed help why have you never contacted me, I would have come instantly, I can't believe that I almost lost you and I didn't even know," he says as he lets go of me and starts to pace around the room. 

"Hey," I say as I touch his arm. He stops pacing and looks at me. " I can defend myself, you know that, plus that is why I am here now, I want to speak with you about something very important," I say 

He stands straighter, his knight side coming out, "You can tell me anything, you know that sunshine" he says 

I take a step back feeling the tension in this very moment " Lucian Peverell I would like you to be my warder", I say. As soon as the words come out of my mouth I see Lucian smirk, he kneels in front of me. 

"Princess Liana Driskel, I Lucian Peverell swear to protect you, be your confidant, and die for you, It would be my honor sunshine," he says 

I am overwhelmed with happiness, I start to feel the one power all around me. I pull and push the treads until I start to form a weave all around the both of us, when it's complete I feel it go inside the both of us, we absorb the one power. I can feel the connections starting to form, it's like invisible threads that lead me straight towards him, guiding me to my other half.  It's like nothing I have ever felt before. 

Lucian stands and instantly envelopes me in a hug. I hug him back and we stay like that for a while. Once we separate I say "The bond gives the Warder heightened abilities to go without food, water, and rest, and the ability to withstand wounds that would kill ordinary men. They also appear to gain some semblance of the ability to detect Shadowspawn. We are now both able to detect certain emotional and physical states about the other, and have an unerring ability to locate each other's relative direction and vague distance from their current location." 

"Well that is perfect, now I can make sure you are always protected, no more almost dying on me, are we understood" Lucian says with a smirk 

"ha ha you're so funny, I think I did a pretty good job staying alive, I mean look at me I think I look pretty good " I reply. He looks me up and down. 

" Yeah your right you do look beautiful," he says with a sincere smile. 

"Now you won't be able to get rid of me that easily," I say 

"Who said I wanted to, " he says.
