+ (Y/N)'s POV +
Another day has flown by in Lake Braddock Secondary School. The semester had recently kicked itself off the ground and into the air with prospecting new freshmen that replace the flocking seniors who spread their wings and leave the nest. Although, I've never delved into the school's history directly because it would be boring monologuing and exposition, it would be better to shorten it in the best way possible for those who can't understand. I've decided it would be better to drop my forced quirkiness because it's not gonna win any points with other people anyway. It was dumb to do that.
The school is filled with troubled students for the most part, many shaped by the influence of the nearby cul-de-sacs and MS-13 gang activity, creating plenty of "bad apples." Nicole stands out among them, a particularly notorious case—especially as a transfer student from another school. By bad apples, there are plenty examples to go along since the past two weeks.
Girls sneaking smokes and cigs in the empty bathrooms and cozying up to teachers for a free pass through flirtation—it's a classic tactic, giving them an easier time than those who actually put in the effort. Lying and cheating have been part of their toolkit since day one. Naturally, you'd expect the transfer student to fall right in line with these "popular mean girls" who insist on wearing pink every Wednesday. But surprisingly, she hasn't joined their clique. Then again, Nicole was far from girly anyway.
Those were only one of the groups I've mentioned. The other groups fit in their own agenda:
Jocks, like Kylar, are recognized for their athletic prowess and bold, confident attitude. They tend to be loud, physically assertive, and often handle situations with a touch of roughness. Their most obvious trait? All muscle and barely a brain cell in sight. They're just stronger cattle compared to the frail sheep in school.
The Preps, like Jecka, often come from wealthy or high-income backgrounds, dress in the latest styles, and stay involved in extracurriculars. Many assume they're polished, well-behaved, and destined for leadership roles thanks to their clean-cut image, but appearances can be deceiving.
The emo kids are few in number, but they blend seamlessly into a group known as the Rebels. They frequently push back against school authority, skip classes, and carry a "rules are meant to be broken" mindset, all with a nonchalant attitude that defines their approach to nearly everything.
Other smaller groups fill the school too: Theater Kids, Stoners, Floaters, Overachievers, and so on. But where do I fit in? Calling myself an Overachiever would be too generous. Outcast feels more accurate—a label for those who don't quite blend into any group. I suppose I'm my own little faction, a one-person crew with myself as the Leader.
