(Y/N)'s POV

Ah, connections. That fun little social construct where we pretend our bonds mean something profound—or, at the very least, tolerable. Sometimes it's just skin-deep, held together by shared DNA and awkward holiday dinners. Other times, it's a lifeline, deeper than blood, forged out of something raw and real. But let's cut the philosophical fluff: would you pick loyalty over blood? Or stick with blood and hope it doesn't betray you?

Be honest—do you really feel like forcing a connection just because you think you should? Is it out of desperation, love, or just a misguided hope that someone will finally see you? Platonic or romantic, is it worth the effort? Now here's the kicker: when you torch every bridge, watch them go up in flames, and find yourself sitting in the ashes, what's your next move? Maybe you'll call it freedom—or maybe, just maybe, you'll wish you had a bucket of water and a little less gasoline.

LHS: Chain of Memories

[Northern-Virginia, Burke]

[7:15am | LHS | English Remedial]

[October 10th, 2007]

Another day, another episode of chaos in first period. Miss Ames, bless her overly optimistic soul, spent half the class scolding students for their colorful language and questionable life choices. Every time she did, I couldn't help but wonder: why is she here? Is this some misguided "save the youth" mission? Does she think she's the heroine in an after-school special, swooping in to soften the blow of life for us heathens? And, let's be real, her attempts to "connect" with us? Painfully awkward. She's somewhere between 25 and 35—I think. She's got that I'm young, but also dead inside look that teachers who've seen too much tend to wear.

Meanwhile, Kylar was practically floating. Smiling, giggling, and oozing sunshine like he was starring in his own rom-com. Why? Probably because I threw Nicole under the bus last month after Coach Colby wiped the floor with me during that arcade brawl. Mid-September feels like a fever dream at this point, but the rumors about how I "killed" Coach Colby? Absolute gold. Everyone eats that drama up, even though it's mostly bullshit. I just spit out enough half-truths to keep the story alive for a while, then I gave up trying to tell it. But, hey, can't have Kelly Clarkson ugly-crying on me if I start dropping the word "kill" too casually. Some mysteries are better left unsolved.

Ames stood at the front of the room, her voice a mix of strained patience and the desperation of someone trying to teach teenagers about MLA citation formatting. "Remember, every single source must have a corresponding entry in your Works Cited page. And no, Wikipedia does not count as a scholarly source."
