Left alone in the quiet house, Taelyn decided it was the perfect time to test her powers

Left alone in the quiet house, Taelyn decided it was the perfect time to test her powers. Her room was a disaster, and she figured a bit of supernatural cleaning couldn't hurt. With a flick of her wrist, clothes lifted off the floor, books glided back onto shelves, and dust seemed to vanish into thin air. She felt a surge of excitement—she was actually getting the hang of this.

But just as she was finishing up, she heard footsteps behind her. Heart pounding, she spun around to see Donald standing in the doorway, arms crossed, his expression unreadable. How long had he been watching?

"Taelyn," he said quietly, his tone firm, "we need to talk. Meet me in the lab."

The next morning, Taelyn went down to the lab with a heavy heart, unsure of what to expect. She found Donald waiting, arms crossed, looking serious.

"Sit down," he said, gesturing to the chair across from him.

She took a seat, her stomach twisting with anxiety. She'd been so careful—no one was supposed to know about her powers.

Donald leaned forward, his gaze steady. "I know about your powers."

Her eyes widened in shock. She tried to come up with an explanation, but her mind went blank. How could he know? She hadn't told anyone.

"Look," Donald continued, his tone softening. "I'm not here to pry about where or how you got them. But if you're going to use those powers, I need to make sure it's for something that matters. Not... cleaning your room."

Taelyn felt a wave of embarrassment but quickly looked away, keeping her thoughts to herself.

"That's why I'm putting you on the mission team," Donald said, crossing his arms. "It's the only way I can keep an eye on you and make sure you're using those abilities responsibly."

She wanted to protest, to say she wasn't ready for this—but she knew Donald well enough to realize there was no changing his mind.

"You're in this now, Taelyn," he said, his gaze softening slightly. "Whether you're ready or not."

The next day, Donald gathered Adam, Bree, and Chase in the lab. When Taelyn arrived, she noticed their puzzled expressions as Donald made his announcement.

"Starting today, Taelyn will be joining the mission team," he said, keeping his tone matter-of-fact.

Adam raised an eyebrow. "Wait, Taelyn? Since when?"

Donald gave no further explanation, simply nodding as if the matter was settled. "Just trust me on this one," he said, leaving the others with more questions than answers.

After he left, Bree turned to Taelyn, eyeing her with a mix of curiosity and suspicion. "What's going on, Taelyn? What did you do to get on the mission team?"

Taelyn tried to keep her expression neutral, shrugging it off, but her mind was racing. Donald's words echoed in her head—her secret was partially out, and she knew Adam, Bree, and Chase wouldn't let this go. She'd have to be extra careful. Being on the mission team was the last thing she expected, but now, with her powers discovered, she had no choice but to go along with it—and hope her friends didn't start piecing everything together.
