Taelyn sits on her bed, scrolling absentmindedly through her phone. A faint smile lingers on her face, still thinking about her victory over Adam earlier. The quiet is interrupted by her phone buzzing with an incoming call. Seeing Cadence's name on the screen, her smile widens as she answers.

Taelyn asked. "Hey, Cadence! What's up?"

There's a pause on the other end. Taelyn's smile fades as she hears a soft sniffle.

Cadence voice shaky. "Hey, Tae... can I come over?"

Taelyn concerned. "Of course! Are you okay? You sound..."

Cadence cried. "I'll explain when I get there. I just... I need to see you."

Taelyn felt concerned. "Say no more. Come over."

The call ends, and Taelyn sits up straighter, worry creeping into her chest. She glances at the clock, wondering what could have Cadence so upset.

The doorbell rings, and Taelyn rushes to answer it. Cadence stands on the porch, bundled in a coat, her face pale and her eyes red from crying. Taelyn pulls her friend into a tight hug without hesitation. "Cadence, what's going on? You're scaring me."

Cadence sniffling. "Can we sit down?"

Taelyn nods and leads her to the couch. They sit, and Cadence hesitates, looking down at her hands, which are trembling slightly. "Cadence, whatever it is, you can tell me."

Cadence voice cracking. "I didn't want you to hear it from someone else. I thought you deserved to know first."

Taelyn heart pounding. "Know what?"

Cadence after a long pause. "My family's moving. Right after Christmas."

Taelyn freezes, her heart sinking like a stone. "What? No, you're kidding, right? This is... a joke or something."

Cadence shaking her head. "I wish it was. My dad got a new job across the country. We're leaving the day after Christmas."

Taelyn stares at her, unable to process the words. Her best friend—her forever friend—was leaving? "But... but we were supposed to do everything together. New Year's, spring break, summer... everything."

Cadence tears slipping down her cheeks. "I know. I thought we had forever too."

Taelyn feels a lump rising in her throat. She tries to blink back her own tears but fails. "You can't just... leave. What about all our plans? What about... us?"

Cadence cried. "Taelyn, I don't want to go. If I had any choice, I'd stay. But I don't."

They sit in silence for a moment, the weight of the news settling around them like a heavy blanket. Finally, Taelyn grabs Cadence's hands, squeezing them tightly.

Taelyn asked. "Then we'll make the most of the time we have left. You're not leaving without the best memories of us. Got it?"

Cadence lets out a watery laugh, nodding. "Got it."
