This is the first book I'm writing about my original character, Druella Black II. To clarify, this is an alternate universe (AU) of Harry Potter. While it incorporates parts of the books and movies, many elements have been reimagined to suit this story. For example, Narcissa's appearance is based on her portrayal in The Half-Blood Prince, then The Deathly Hallows which I personally prefer The Half Blood Prince for its elegance. This will likely be her appearance throughout the entire series.
There are several important distinctions to consider: a significant portion of the storyline will draw heavily from the original Harry Potter books, rather than solely relying on the film adaptations. For individuals who are familiar only with the movies, this may lead to some confusion, as the narrative and character developments may differ substantially from what they have seen on screen. Additionally, the personalities and traits of various characters may not align perfectly between the two mediums, resulting in a richer, more nuanced portrayal in the books that may not be fully captured in the films. The fanfic will incorporate scenes inspired by both the original books and the films. The scenes that are from the books and movies I had added my OC they are owned by J.K Rowling. This decision certifies that crucial plot points and character backstories are presented authentically, honoring J.K. Rowling's original vision. However, it is important to note that the personalities of the characters and the ending of each fanfiction will separate from what is depicted in her original work. This creative choice I made may leave viewers who are less familiar with the books feeling somewhat confused as they navigate these unexpected changes.
Additionally, the visual representation of the characters will draw heavily from the movie portrayals, as I personally prefer those interpretations. This choice not only establishes a familiar aesthetic for audience members who have watched the films. But also allows for a more visual experience. I feel by merging aspects on both the books and films, the production aims to create a unique storytelling experience that pays homage to the beloved original while exploring new narrative avenues.
Another note: Bellatrix wasn't in Azkaban as long as she was in the original Harry Potter timeline. She was released just a month before giving birth to Druella. As a result, she isn't as deranged here as she is in the books or movies. She retains her manipulative and cunning nature but is deeply devoted to her daughter, whom she adores. Another note, Bellatrix's last name is Black, not Lestrange, as she left Rodolphus.
Unlike her canonical counterpart, her personality cunning and manipulative traits while being deeply devoted to Druella, assuming the role of Matriarch of the Noble House of Black.Narcissa's personality is also different, reflecting more of her sister's influence. She will have more influence in the Wizarding World regarding the Ministry then Lucius making her a key character in my series. The two sisters work together closely in this story, creating a dynamic that adds depth to their characters. Narcissa's personality reflects a blend of her book and movie portrayals, while having with a stronger influence from Bellatrix's manipulative tendencies due to Bellatrix living in Malfoy Manor. In contrast, Lucius is depicted as darker and more antagonistic than in the original stories, while Dumbledore's flaws are more pronounced, presenting him in a negative light that reveals a darker side to his actions and motivations. Similarly, Lockhart remains true to his book portrayal, depicted unfavorably with additional scenes that highlight his incompetence and selfishness.
Before diving into the story of Druella Black II, there are several key points to consider. Druella, an original character, draws her name from her a cannon Harry Potter character her grandmother, who is the mother of Bellatrix and Narcissa. She serves as the central figure in this alternate universe narrative, which creatively intertwines familiar elements from the Harry Potter books and movies with reimagined dynamics and relationships.
The narrative is primarily written in third person. Although Druella is the main character, the perspective occasionally shifts to other characters, from their perspectives providing a deeper understanding of their thoughts and emotions, which enriches the storytelling experience. The inclusion of humor throughout the story varies from relatable moments in real life to jokes aimed at a more mature audience. Additionally, there are instances of adult content that distinctly set this tale apart from the original books while aligning with its overall tone.
In terms of character appearances, most characters will closely resemble their portrayals from the Harry Potter movies. For example, Narcissa Malfoy takes inspiration from her depiction in "The Half-Blood Prince," characterized by her iconic platinum blonde and black hair styled in elegant buns or flowy updos throughout the series. This sophisticated and aristocratic look complements her poised demeanor.
Druella's dynamics with her professors add depth to her character interactions. Her relationship with McGonagall mimics the clash of strong personalities found in Harry's dynamic with Snape, tempered by Druella reminding McGonagall of her mother. Snape, in this narrative, takes on a mentor role, balancing his sternness with unexpected moments of guidance and support, mirroring McGonagall's influence over Harry. On the other hand, Druella and Dumbledore maintain a distant and tense relationship, with minimal interaction as she sees through his manipulative facade.
As for the themes and warnings within the story, it is important to note that there are no inappropriate relationships, especially between Druella and Draco, who are cousins. Additionally, the narrative explores themes of infantilization, showcasing overprotectiveness and control, such as instances of forced bathing, which highlight complex dynamics of involuntarily care without veering into sexual abuse. It will include child abuse scenes as well and domestic abuse. The story is meant for mature audiences, featuring darker themes and intricate relationships.
Worldbuilding and plot development reveal that the story begins during "The Chamber of Secrets," marking Druella's first year at Hogwarts. This alternate universe will weave an alternate ending to the established canon, extending through "The Deathly Hallows" and potentially beyond. Canon scenes are reimagined and expanded, altering them to align with this unique narrative while deliberately incorporating rare or unusual events that diverge from real-world norms, all integral to the story.
As a labor of love, this fanfiction is a work in progress, with the writing process focusing on frequent edits, updates, and spontaneous additions as the narrative evolves. As such, attention to detail and refinement plays a crucial role in its creation. Lastly, character pairings may differ from canon, thoughtfully chosen to enhance the themes and dynamics of this alternate universe, making the storytelling even richer.
