High school au

You were the perfect girl. Beautiful, funny, smart.

But way out of his league.

You, Y/N L/N, the most popular girl in school, were best friends with Gina Linetti in high school. Gina was best friends with Jake Peralta.

It shouldn't come to a shock that you, G-Dog (a name she insisted you call her) and JP became the closest friend circle in the school.

Only Gina knew that you liked Jake.

Only Gina knew that Jake liked you.

It's a surprise she didn't meddle.

"Yo, sunflower," Jake said, leaning on the locker next to yours. "Rumor has it you don't have a date to Prom."

"Yeah. Rumor's true," you said simply.

"Why's that? I heard Danny B. asked you."

"Danny's a crackhead. Everyone with a brain knows that, JP."

"Well, not my fault I don't have one."

You let out a chuckle. "You're an idiot."

"I know," Jake replied with that shit-eating grin of his. "But why don't you have a date?"

"I'm planning to ask someone," you said, closing your locker after getting your math textbook out.

"Really?" Jake asked, standing up straighter. "Who?"

"Wouldn't you like to know."

You had left a note in Jake's locker, an anonymous love poem. It went something like this:

"Love is like a rose,

Sweet, beautiful, dangerous.

Picking the rose can lead to hurt,

But if you do it right, you'll end up content."

When Jake saw the note in his locker the next day, he was shocked to say the least.

"Y/N! Gina! Guess what?"

"What's up with you, weirdo?" asked Gina.

"I have a secret admirer! I think. There's like, a 40% chance this a prank..."

You smiled. "That's great! Who is it?" you asked, acting clueless.

"I don't know," he responded. "Can you help me figure it out? I really wanna know who it is before prom."

"Oooh, you gonna ask your secret admirer to prom?" you teased, a smile on your face.

"Well, sunflower, that depends on who it is," he responded with a cheeky grin.

"Well, we better figure it out!"

The next day, Jake found another note in his locker.

"Roses are sweet, sure, but other flowers can be sweeter.

You, Peralta, are the river while I am the sun.

From wherever you stand, you may not see them together, but they always are.

And it's beautiful."
