Strangers. Friends. Best friends. Lovers. Strangers.
I'd like to tell you this story, if you wouldn't mind.
Let's start from the beginning. Strangers.
~
Jake Peralta and his best friend, Charles Boyle, walked into my bakery one day, much to Jake's dismay.
"Hi!" I had said cheerfully. "Welcome to Little Things Bakery! What can I get you?"
"Ooh!" Charles said. "Can I get a cinnamon roll?"
Looking back, I realized that was an odd thing for Charles to order.
"I'll get one too," Jake said.
"Coming right up!"
~
Jake came to my bakery almost every day. We quickly became fast friends.
~
Jake and I were at my apartment one day.
He was forcing me to watch all the Die Hard movies with him, after learning I had never seen them.
"I really don't understand why you like these so much, Jake. They're just mindless action movies."
Jake gasped in offense. "How dare you! They are so much more than that. They are..."
He continued talking about it for like, 30 minutes or so, but I tuned him out.
~
But, I'd do anything for him. Jake Peralta was my best friend.
~
There was one time, my boyfriend, Trevor, dumped me after I learned he was cheating on me. His side piece, Lilly, was as clueless as me, so Trevor was soon left alone. But this isn't about him. It's about Jake.
The day Trevor dumped me, I really had no idea where else to go.
So, I went to Jake's house.
"Hey, you okay?" he asked, opening the door, seeing my tear-stained face.
"No..." I replied.
"You wanna talk?"
And we did.
He's a great person to talk to, actually. A great listener.
After about a month of being sad 'n shit, I finally got over Trevor.
And Jake asked me out.~
I understand if you don't want to keep reading. This is a very sad story. I recommend stopping if you don't want to cry.
But, onto the next part. Lovers.~
After 3 wonderful years of dating Jake, he asked me to marry him.
The idiot wasn't paying attention to the date he proposed, though.
April 1st.
It was morning, and neither of us had work that day.
I was in the kitchen, making breakfast for both of us, having naturally woken up earlier than him."Hey, Y/N," he said.
When I turned around, I saw him on one knee, holding open a velvet ring box.
"You know what would be totally tubular? If we got married."Naturally, considering the date, I thought he was pranking me, and tears started to form in my eyes.
He noticed these and immediately stood up. "Do you not want to get married?" he asked, clearly panicked.
"This is a stupid prank, Jake," I said, watching as a look of confusion formed on his face.
"What? This isn't a prank... Why would you think that?" Then, realization struck him. "Shit. It's April 1st, isn't it?"
I nodded. "Yes. To both questions. But, seriously, never say tubular again."
~
Time for the part I'm most dreading. I recommend not reading this if you'd like to stay happy.
But, I have to continue this. Strangers.
~
It was the day before our wedding day. Wedding eve, as Jake had called it that morning.
He was called onto a case.
I forget what it was now, but it was important.
The last words I heard from him before the accident were "I can't wait for tomorrow, baby! See you later! Love you!"
Some time during this case of his, he got injured. Badly.
He went into a coma.
I thought he was gonna die. But it was worse than that.
Much, much worse than that.
He woke up 3 months later.
At first, I was relieved. I'd have the love of my life back!
But I soon realized that wasn't the case.
He had forgotten me. Completely.
~
So, Jake, wherever you are, whoever you're with now, I hope you're happy.
