The sound of 'Civilian' by Wye Oak blasted through her earbuds that was connected to her MP3 player which she had stuffed in her jacket pocket.

Her hands stuffed in the pockets of her jacket as she walked along the dirt road, she had been on the road for months now. Either that or hauled up in an abandoned house.

Her wavy brown hair was up messily in a ponytail as her body felt unusually cold as usual even in the Georgia heat.

Being undead yet still alive was weird to her, she was never warm, she was always cold. Her skin was pale but her body was wide awake along with her mind.

She thought that when the dead bit her on her shoulder she would have sure turned but she didn't, she got sick and hauled up in a house.

She was ready to die, she made peace with it after watching her parents die, but then she woke up, her bite mark had healed faster than normal.

The 20-year old girl bobbed her head to the music as she held the straps of her backpack with her hands.

It's been 2 years since the outbreak, she came across one group of people about 3 months ago before the camp they were in got overrun with the dead so she moved on.

She pulled a pack of cigarettes out of the side pocket of her bag and flicked the lighter she had lighting it as she walked.

Inhaling the tobacco while some of the dead walked beside her, occasionally bumping her as they stumbled.

She decided to cut through the woods instead, not liking the smell of the dead even though her own scent masked with theirs.

She grabbed the perfume from her bag as she sat against a tree in the woods, spritzing the fruity smell over her dirty clothes so she didn't smell half-bad.

She stuffed it back in her bag as she grabbed a can of beans she found in an old supermarket and popped it open.

The song ended making her pull out her MP3 player and picked a new song to listen to, finally settling on 'Space Junk' by Wang Chung.

She ate the food in silence, the leaves of the trees rustling with the wind, crickets chirped and hawks circled in the sky.

After she finished with the can of food, she tossed it back into her bag and stood up brushing the back of her jeans off before continuing her journey through the woods.

She took her hair out of her ponytail before putting her hood up and setting the hair tie back on her wrist beside her watch.

Her hair was slightly matted and greasy from not having a shower in months, she's been in the same clothes for weeks.

She was content with the amount of food and water she had, being partially undead meant that her hunger and thirst wasn't as strong anymore.

She could last a while without it but she still needed it, she didn't crave the hunger for humans(thankfully).

She made her way back towards the road, walking amongst a herd of the dead that was walking towards a highway. She looked up and saw a man laying down on top of an RV when he saw the herd.

She furrowed her brows and brushed through the herd and opened a car door, sliding into the empty car as the herd passed.

After almost all of the dead passed she exited the car and walked towards where they headed and saw a little girl slide out from under the car as two of them followed her into the woods.

She ran after her as did a man but she kept her distance so he didn't see her, he hid her in the creek behind some piles of roots and led the dead away from her.

The little girl walked out holding her doll as she climbed out of the creek, "Hey." Ellie whispered as she walked up to the girl and kneeled in front of her.

"I can lead you back towards the highway, I saw ya' run from there." Ellie whispered as the little girl nodded and clutched her doll in her arms.

She held her hand as they walked towards the highway as a walker stumbled out of the trees and the little girl bolted in the other direction and out of Ellie's sight.

"Damn kid!" She cursed as she ran after her but lost her, she spent almost half a hour searching for the girl but couldn't find her.

She debated going back to the highway to where the little girls group was but they probably wouldn't trust a stranger so she decided against it.

Instead she walked through the woods beside the highway and out of sight of the group of people, "Hey!" A gruff voice called from behind her and a gun was pointed at her head.

She slowly raised her hands in the air to not seem like a threat and turned around slowly, a man stood about 5 feet away from her with his crossbow aimed at her while a man stood beside her with his gun pointed at her head.

"You seen a little girl out here?" The man with the gun questioned as he gave a hardened glare at the girl.

"I ran into her about half hour ago, tried to get her back to the highway till she bolted, couldn't find her after that." She explained.

The man with the gun nodded and glanced at her up and down as she didn't seem threatening to him, he pointed at the man with the crossbow to lower his weapon.

The man with the crossbow kept his glare before lowering his weapon and walked closer, "You got a group?" The man asked with a grunt.

She shook her head as she lowered her hands and held the straps of her bag, "Not for a while." She said as she took a step away from the men.

"We got a group at the highway, you can come back with us, maybe even help us look for the little girl." The man with a gun said as he nodded at her.

She was hesitant, the last group she was in turned on her, the man noticed her expression and put his gun in his holster.

"My names Rick, this is Daryl." He introduced as he nodded his head to the archer, "What's your name?"

"Ellie."
