Alice's P.O.V
I lay on my bed, face into the pillow, as my mother screamed at me like she usually did.
"You will never be good enough,"She'd say.
"You will always be useless." She'd say.
I didn't pay attention anymore. Even though what she said was probably true. I mean, why else would I take this abuse all the time?
All of a sudden I felt a cold pain in my back. I gasped and lifted my head up. She broke one of her beer bottle on my back. Little pieces of glass severed my skin. I winced.
"That's what you get for not listening to me!" She yelled.
I couldn't speak. Pain coursed through my spine.
"I-I'm sorry," I whispered, trying to pull some glass chunks out. She slapped my face.
"You better be." She said. I whimpered and brought my hand up to my cheek. Great, another thing I'll have to hide at school. She left the room, and my head fell back into my pillow. The Next Day
I slowly walked to school, trying to mask the pain in my back. I finally arrived right before the bell rang for my first class, History.
When I got into class, Justin was waiting for me. Justin is my only friend. I've never told him about my home life. Every day in school, I had to put on a 'mask'. If I ever even hinted that somebody hurt me, I'd probably get killed.
I can't even tell the police, or else I'd hurt my little sister that lives with my dad. Her name is Riley, and she adores my mother. She'd be devastated if she knew what my mom was capable of.
"Where have you been? I was waiting for you in the courtyard," Justin said.
"Sorry, I was running a little late today I-" I was about to say whatever excuse that came to mind, but Mrs. Helen started handing out a pop quiz.
"I'll explain later," I whispered to him.
I begin to sit down in my chair, when a streak of pain ran throughout my spine. I winced, trying to make the pain as unnoticeable as possible. Justin looked at me with a worried expression. I gave him a crooked smile, trying to reassure him I was okay.
I prayed that I could make it through today.____________
