OLIVE sat at the small kitchen table in their london apartment, sunlight filtering through the curtains. with a mix of dread and anticipation, she opened an email from one direction's management. as she read through the familiar, corporate language, her heart sank.
subject: an apology and opportunity
dear olive, we hope this message finds you well.
we would like to extend our sincere apologies for the misunderstandings and challenges surrounding your departure from one direction. it was never our intention to make you feel undervalued, and we acknowledge the impact your absence has had on the group.
with that said, we believe your return could help restore balance to the band, which has struggled since your departure. we hope you will consider this opportunity to rejoin.
we understand if this feels sudden, and we encourage you to take your time in considering it.

she closed her laptop, disbelief washing over her. "unbelievable," she muttered, shaking her head. the email was laced with condescension disguised as concern, and it made her blood boil.
zayn walked into the kitchen, immediately sensing her agitation. "what's up?" he asked, leaning casually against the doorframe.
"our old management emailed me," olive said, her voice tight. "they want me to go back to the band."
"seriously?" zayn replied, brows furrowing. "what did they say?"
"they pretended to apologize but made sure to throw in digs about how things have changed without me. it's just their way of trying to manipulate me back in," she said, frustration evident in her tone.
zayn stepped closer, his expression shifting to one of concern. "you know you don't have to go back, right? you've built a life for yourself here."
"of course, i'm not going back," olive replied, feeling a surge of determination. "i love my freedom."
zayn smiled, a hint of pride in his eyes. "exactly. besides, you've got songs written and ready. why would you go back to that?"
"exactly," she said, her mood lifting slightly. "it feels good to create without anyone looking over my shoulder. i finally feel like i can express myself the way i want."
zayn's gaze softened, and he stepped closer, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "i'm really proud of you, you know? you're doing something incredible, and i can see how much it means to you."
olive felt her cheeks warm at his words, a smile creeping onto her face. "thanks. that means a lot coming from you."
"you have a pretty smile, you know that?" he said, his voice low and sincere.
her heart raced, and a playful blush crept over her cheeks. "do you want to be attacked with kisses again?" she teased, her smile widening.
zayn chuckled, leaning in closer. "if that's your way of thanking me, i wouldn't mind at all."
in an instant, olive surged forward, pressing soft kisses all over his face, unable to hold back her laughter.
