THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY CHAPTER THIRTY SIX 1st of october 2016
OLIVE'S breath was sharp and ragged as she stood in the doorway, her fists clenched at her sides. the sight of dylan with another girl in her apartment, made her stomach turn. the anger flooded her system in an instant, and she couldn't hold it back anymore.
"are you fucking kidding me?!" olive shouted, her voice seething with fury. "you lock me out of my apartment and bring someone else in here? are you serious right now ?" her eyes burned with rage as she took a few steps toward him, barely keeping herself from exploding.
dylan scrambled to cover himself, his face a mixture of embarrassment and anger. "olive, it's not like that—" he started, but olive was having none of it.
"not like that?" olive's laugh was bitter and cold. "you lock me out, you bring some girl in, and now you want to play the victim? you are so pathetic, dylan. you've been nothing but childish and selfish!"
dylan stood up fully, his eyes narrowing, his chest heaving with frustration. "you're one to talk, olive. you've never actually cared, have you? you're still not over zayn, and you act like i'm the one who's messed up! you're the one who's hung up on him, not me."
olive's anger flared even higher, her blood boiling. "this has nothing to do with zayn! i don't owe you an explanation for anything with him. you're the one who's been toxic, trying to control everything, pushing me away at every turn. i'm done with this!"
dylan's face twisted with rage, and he took a step forward, pointing at her accusingly. "you never really cared, did you? you're too busy still thinking about him. you can't even let go of that shit, so how can you expect me to believe you ever loved me?"
olive felt her chest tighten, the words hitting harder than she wanted to admit. but she refused to let him manipulate her anymore. "no." she took a step closer, her voice cold and unwavering. "you're the one who's ruined this, dylan. you're the one who's selfish and disrespectful. you act like i'm the problem, but it's you. you've always been the problem."
dylan's face reddened with fury, and his voice grew louder, more venomous. "you're so messed up, olive. you're so damn broken, you can't even see how messed up you are! you want to blame me for everything, but you're the one who's too fucking scared to move on from him."
the words felt like a slap in the face, but olive stood her ground, her heart pounding in her chest. "i'm done, dylan. you've crossed every line. get out. now."
dylan's eyes flashed with a mix of anger and disbelief. "you're just going to throw me out? fine! you don't deserve someone like me anyway!"
without another word, he stormed out, slamming the door behind him so hard the walls shook. olive stood there, breathless and shaking, her pulse pounding in her ears. the apartment was silent now, but the sting of his words lingered in the air.
she took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, but all she felt was the weight of everything that had just happened—the hurt, the frustration, the betrayal. she had finally gotten him out, but it didn't feel like a victory. it felt like the aftermath of a war, and she was left standing in the wreckage.
