Ramona
My mattress creaked under my movement, making a tormenting sound through the spacious apartment. I layed still on my side, still dressed and with my wedged boots on looking from the window at the lights of the urban nightlife of Satira. Yellow, blue, pink and white danced in the dark, illuminating the nocturnal city. I closed my eyes again, forcing myself to get any type of rest, I felt my body succumb into dreamland...
Ping!
My eyes snapped wide, I took my phone and checked who it was. The screen flashed before me and as I squinted I read the time, 3:30 am.
Who the hell is texting me now?! I thought annoyingly. Then, I saw the notification and I rolled my eyes.
The one and only self proclaimed lord of evil, number one enemy of the government, a civil threat to Satira and also my boss. Dave.
'Hello Ramona! Now that Nera is sleeping can you come over right now? Grey and Katya are also coming.' he had written. My brow furrowed. What was so important to have to call me in the early morning?
I guess I'll just have to go, I have to go to work anyways today...
I got up from my bed, making the mattress creak again.
"I gotta get a new bed..." I muttered to myself. My hand brushed my nightstand roughly, searching for my glasses engagedly, a metal stick brushed across my hand and I grabbed hold of them tightly. I take a second to look at them and they're peculiar retro scare shape, I turn them around and put them to my eyes. Now I could see well, I caught a glimpse of my cat, Vinnie sleeping on the end of my bed. Their scarred left eye didn't look as intimidating right then. My frown was replaced with a tiny smile for a second, I gathered my bag, my glasses which I put on my forehead and a jacket and walked out of the apartment building.
The chilly November air hit me right in the face, as if the text message at 3am wasn't enough. What a wonderful start to my day. A shiver ran down my spine like a centipede crawling on its legs. I forced my step and paced through the large city. Lights flickered besides my strolling figure. Neon lights and smoke acted as if they were blankets on the streets. Satira was quite a clean city, but the air quality was nothing close to okay. Even if it was an unholy hour of the night there were still some people outside, mostly people who were going to work or were getting out of work. I saw some young girls walking in a group, they wore cute matching outfits and were doing selfies, laughing and talking. I glanced at them, then looked away.
Pink was never my colour. I thought. I found myself at the entrance of a metro station. I plummeted into the underground of the metro. I pulled my blue hair out of my face as a new sense hit me. The metro was much more bustling than the above. I caught sight of some people who had come from a nearby city, judging by their looks. I even caught notice of a very rare Titoki person. The Titoki are a separate species from humans, they are people but with bird wings and features. My head tilted as I saw the hummingbird Titoki pass me, she had long green hair that went up to her knees and her green wings tucked behind her.
What the hell is a Titoki doing here? Do they not know Satira isn't safe for bird people? I pondered. I hitched a ride on the train I needed. It took about an hour to get there so I might as well get comfortable. I sat down next to a tall man with coily hair that stuck up and skin dark as the night. I didn't give them much attention and I pulled out a book. A Gentleman In Moscow. I then took out my earphones and listened to some of my favourite songs. The man beside me noticed the book and whistled.
"My my madam, that's quite the book." they commented, I took off one of my earphones and looked over at them.
"Yeah, it's quite good." I responded, waving the book a bit to emphasised. The man smiled.
