Song: "Karma" By AJR
"I've been so good, I've been helpful and friendly. I've been so good, why am I feeling empty? I've been so good, I've been so good this year. I've been so good but it's still getting harder. I've been so good, where the hell is the karma? I've been so good, I've been so good this year."

Grian POV
The morning where last chapter begins...
Life sucks.
Yep. There. Grian said it- the thing that we are all thinking. Of course, this thought was awfully clear today specifically.
Grian slowly blinked his eyes open as he lay upon his red and black colored bed and just sat for a moment in the darkness. A small bit of light was shining through the uncovered part of the window, and Grian couldn't help but flinch a little bit as his eyes landed on it.
Glancing at the clock, the boy noticed the time. 7:22am. He sighed. This new school- Craft High- started way earlier than he would have liked. In fact, probably most of the students would already be getting ready. After taking a moment and finally deciding that it was time to get up, Grian slowly stretched out his wings.
Yep. That's right. His wings.
Grian was an avian, and to put it the least, it was about the worst thing that could have ever happened to him. Most hybrids end up that way due to at least one other parent who has the traits, or at least a grandparent. Not for Grian it seems! His avian traits were purely because of both his parents being carriers. Nobody in his family had actually expressed the gene in generations, so when he was born with these appendages, it was a shock to everyone.
Of course, that was before the hybrids were even given rights.
What this meant was basically that Grian faced daily racism, along with the possibility of death every day. Technically you weren't supposed to kill hybrids, but nobody actually cared. It was just hunting to most people. So, growing up, Grian hid away and never got any real-life experience, making him super socially awkward.
When hybrids finally got "rights," he decided that he would like to attend a hybrid only school! It was run by humans, so abuse in the school wasn't uncommon, but nobody really cared. Now, though, Grian was being forced to leave the hybrid school and go to a real, public school.
Yippee.
Of course, getting away from that administration was good, but public school? With mean, racist, and homophobic (yes, Grian is gay) kids and adults? Yeah, no thank you.
Regardless, he did have to will himself out of bed. He slowly stepped out of his red and black bed and stumbled around until he found the light switch. His curtains were always closed for reasons obvious to Grian, so the sunlight couldn't really help out at all, despite the small shine. As soon as the lights were on, Grian couldn't help his eyes from wandering to his Dream Board.
A Dream Boards is basically a cork board with things that you really want for the future. Grian's multicolored eyes fell upon it, and he felt his face soften. It helped to look at it, to know that in some universe, things were better. Their were quite a few pictures on the board. The first one was a photo of Grian and his mother from years, and years ago. He was probably- six? Another photo consisted of Grian's mother and father from before he was born, laughing. There were a few other photos in different spots, but the largest picture was just one of Grian, smiling and happy, with his wings cut out. Grian felt his smile (which he didn't even realize he had on) fall, and his wings began to twitch. No point dwelling on what could never be.
