Sitting up in this tree had given me the impression that maybe I didn't need to have visions to tell me that I'm afraid of heights. I mean it could be the fact that we really climbed up high in this ever going tree. This may not have been the smartest idea but it was all that we had at the moment. How we were going to sleep this high up was beyond me. The last thing I needed was to have survived all this time from becoming a meal for these sick creatures, only to crack my head open from falling out of a tree in my sleep.

There had been no other caves that we could find and being that there could be more of those tall, horrendous monsters here, we needed a place where it couldn't reach us. From up here it did give off some security. That freak wasn't this tall so from here we were safe as long as we didn't fall. I dared to peel my eyes away from the branches next to me and make the most regretful decision to look down. Instantly my nails dug into the bark of the tree as I closed my eyes and ever so carefully brought my face back with barely any movement.

"Damn it's high up here." Grinding my teeth I had formed a new hatred for the stupid person across from me as my eye twitched.  "Oh shit! Ha, I almost died." I heard him adjust himself on the branch he sat on that was also slightly higher than mine. The only good thing was that these trees were not only huge but so much so that the branches rivaled them. All I had to do was be aware because there was no way they were going to break.

"I really hate you."  I told him with growing rage that covered my own underlying fear. This was going to be a long night. I only hope that it is somewhat quiet. From both whatever is out there and from Jean.

I wasn't able to sleep just yet, my nerves were still full of jitters from the forsaken bed we would spend the night. I volunteered to stay watch for the first half of the night to try and fight the negative thoughts that swirled themselves around in my head. They were nipping at me persistently with dagger-like teeth ready to tear into any stray that did not pay them any attention.

I figured I could either allow this fear to fester inside of my mind and prevent me from making sure both of us don't meet an untimely death or I could choose to get over it so that I can see the sunrise. So here I was clinging to the trunk of this tree like it was going to be snatched away from me at any second. And to keep my mind off of the ground I continued to stare at Jean's sleeping form that held absolutely no care in the world as his snores filled my ears.

Our branches were close to one another, they almost intertwined as one. Jean had many branches that overlapped each other, they were covered by moss. He was able to lay himself out so that his arms hooked in between the branches and his legs. He looked more secure than I was, his lack of fear was something that amazed me. It might have to do with the exhaustion though, we both were feeling it.

As the night was drawn in, it was almost like it was its' own person coming in from a long day as they lazy dragged along. Making each stride as heavy and slumped so that they could waste as much time as they could.

The sun had begun to take his rest and hide underneath the gnarled, ill toned dirty sky. The sky was no longer his and he didn't care to hold onto it any longer than he had to. The sky grew darker and in time it revealed its' stars that tried their best to push past the thick clouds that blocked their path. Night then rose up from where she had been cast into, she overtook anything in her line of sight. She swept across almost as if she were gliding across a dance floor with the capture of all the eyes.

She was as alluring as she was frightful. Dumping all her devious tricks across the table all scattered and divided. Leaving all her pieces unattended to be picked up and used by the dark entities that followed in her wake.
