We ran. We ran with everything that we had in us. I was unsure whether it had already been in the building or if it had outsmarted us and went around some other way to make it inside and take us by surprise. It didn't matter at this point. The only thing I could think of was that I had to get away. And praying that there weren't anymore of them inside.
We had run back the way we had came. We flew down the hallway, the red eyed devil close on our heels. It definitely had more room within this building but this one was still pretty large. It used its' claws to violently drag itself forward, shredding into the floor and leaving the marks behind it. It also tried using its brute strength to launch itself forward, making everything around us shake. Pieces of the ceiling fell to the floor with a loud smash, we stumbled as we tried to balance ourselves. Dodging the concrete that came crashing down without any warning or concern for our safety. The sound of the high pitched bellow coming from behind us felt as if it swept right past us and erupted down the rest of the halls causing it to quake and throwing us forward with great power. We could literally feel the hot breath on our skin as it roared.
Hitting the ground hard, we were left with sores that would be felt later and scratches among our faces. Finding our footing in a panic, we took off running again. The both of us barely even looked to one another. We just kept running. My heart felt as if it was going to give out at any moment, it felt as if it was just going to stop.
We had made it to the staircase that led to the downwards to the second level below us. Fumbling our way down the steps when the enormous skull-like head of our tormentor came hurling forward, directly into the wall, missing us by inches by some miracle. Blocks of cement fell and sprung in every direction, dust from the rubble creating a barely visible fog. I was tossed into the air unable to see clearly, I made contact with the wall and I don't know how my head didn't hit it, falling back to earth I was pummeled down the stairs. The wind was taken right out of me.
I lay there. Wherever I was, my vision was blurred and the world was spiraling all around me. There was no sound, it was silent. The white-noise like state seemed to just slow time down. What?....I no longer seemed to care about what was going on or what had happened. My thoughts were no more. My eyes darted all about, still blurred. It was then that I felt like I was coughing, gasping for air. My chest had a heavy weight pressed on top of it, my throat seemed to clamp up. Struggling to breathe I could hear a ringing in my ears.
If I was moving at all, I couldn't tell. I was unsure. The only thing I kept thinking about was that I needed air. I couldn't breathe! The utter fear that settled into my whole body was not what I would think but it still didn't mean it wasn't terrifying. I wasn't scared of not being able to breathe, I wasn't even scared of the fact I could die from a lack of oxygen. My sole focus was that I needed air. The only word that managed to cross my mind that was already all out of sorts.
