**Hello, Loves! Are you ready for the ride?**

Caden

Lilly and I were exhausted by the time she collapsed onto her bed. The morning rain didn't feel fresh this time.

I turned my head toward her bed, watching as she stared at the ceiling, lost in thought.

"Lils," I murmured. "What's up?"

Lilly only exhaled with glossy eyes. "In all of this chaos I am so useless."

She was enough. She had always been enough.

"No, no, no," I said and went to lay down next to her. "You're not useless."

Her cheeks were now painted with tears, and she hugged me tightly, making the sheet crumple around us. "I can't shift... I won't ever shift. I'm mateless."

Her amazing smell filled my nose as I exchanged the force she held me with. I would never let her go.

"You will be a wolf too," I reassured her and buried my face in her hair.

She pulled away, looking at me properly. "You don't know that."

"I've been thinking," I said and saw her eyes sparkle. "A lot lately."

Lilly waited with her arms still around me, calmer.

"If you're mateless, you can be a wolf. There's still a way," I said with confidence.

Lilly's brows furrowed. "How?"

I looked at her seriously and breathed out the truth. Or the delusion I wanted to make true so badly. "I can bite you... Mark you."

A long, heavy silence. Her dark eyes not leaving my lips.

Then she scoffed, rolling her eyes. "That's not how it works."

"It is," I countered. "It's how mates work. It's how she wolves get turned."

She was stiff for a long moment, then sat up, her warm hand not leaving my chest. "You've never bitten anyone before."

"That's exactly my point," I nodded quickly, playing with her bracelet I'd given her. "I can mark you."

"How could it work? That's nonsense," she scoffed but there was unmistakably a hope in her voice.

"It will work," I stood my ground.

Lilly rolled her eyes but looked sad. "It has to be a bite from a destined love. We are not fated mates, there's no pull I can feel when I look deep in your eyes. And that's something I would feel the very first time looking at you."

"We can be an exception," I muttered and moved closer to her. "Look at me I became mateless before I could mark anyone. I have to have a purpose."

"Yes," she nodded and it warmed me. "You can fall in love again. But you were not born as a werewolf, you're not destined for another werewolf. Fate will force you for a human girl."

I sat up quickly. "That's what I thought at first, until my brother found out his mate is a she wolf."

Lilly halted and was thinking for a long moment. She knew Theo wasn't born as a werewolf either. "So, you think you can too."

"Ever since you mentioned Noah," I said and waited.

The room was cold and silent before she shook her head. "I have just a strong feeling that Noah was the one. I don't know that for sure."

I smiled and held her hand. "We can try."

She looked away, playing with the edge of the blanket. "I don't want it from you."
