( season one, episode one )

VERONA WAS A HOUSEHOLD NAME. Billy Verona had been CEO and Founder of Verona Incorporated for as long as anyone could remember. Though looking back, no one could tell you how he got to the spot he was in at the moment. It was also no secret that he had a daughter with a low-life woman as he called her.

Ilse Valdez was in love with Billy. At least, she believed she was. So, when she found out she was with child, let alone his child, she was over the moon. Problem was Billy was very particular about his status. He couldn't have a child with a lower-class woman. A woman who was struggling to keep up with rent and a woman who had been admitted into psych wings more times than a lunatic.

So, he walked out. He barely paid child support, resulting in Ilse having to work multiple jobs. It was hard. She found herself getting addicted to drugs, making it hard for her to keep her jobs. She missed out on rent more times than ever and had to take care of a baby on top of it.

She should've gotten an abortion. That was the one thing that ran through her mind when she first gave birth. But getting to look at the beautiful newborn who shared her looks, she knew she made the right choice.

Camila Verona. Ilse made no effort in changing her last name, wanting her to be known as Billy's daughter despite him being an asshole.

Camila was gifted in more ways than others. She'd learnt to talk quicker than the average baby, walked earlier, she was just a dream come true. Ilse tried, truly. She tried to be a good mother.

She tried to be like her mother. But some kind of force was pulling her from making all the right decisions. Not to mention the drugs she got hooked on.

It went on for years. It was an endless cycle. She would do something nice, Camila would be grateful and would expect more it until she would find her mother passed out outside the apartment door.

So with that, the young girl learned to fend for herself. Her mother had confined her to homeschooling for some unknown reason, so she was far more advanced than the average kids her age. Her tutor was sweet, the only real friend the girl ever had. She learned how to clean properly, cook, wash dishes. She did everything her mother couldn't. She didn't blame anyone.

Anyone but her father. He walked out to be a good man for some model. At least, that's how the girl saw it. She knew who her father was and with the few times she'd met him in mind, she'd gotten to know the man he truly was.

No one was perfect, of course not. But this man was lightyears away from being good. She couldn't understand why he couldn't be a father for her. Why he couldn't be good for her. He didn't have to love her mother; they didn't have to get along. She just wanted to be able to go get frozen yogurt like all the other kids did with their dads. Or go to the beach and do all the father-daughter things everyone else got to do. Why did he have to be so different?
