CHAPTER 9

once pat's apartment was empty, i decided too take a long hot shower. i undressed, climbing into the shower, turning the knob too it's maximum temperature. the hot water rolled down my back as my body went numb, and i let my mind take over.

after a long shower, which was spent thinking about many things, i threw on some nike leggings, a blackhawks hoodie, and my nike free runs. there wasn't alot to do around the apartment, so i decided to go to the hawk's practice, and catch the end of it.

walking out of the apartment, the bitter city's air consumed my body, and all warmth that was once there, left. shivering, i walked quickly too my car and got in, turning on the ignition and amping the heat.

driving too johnny's ice complex took very little time, and i was soon sitting in front of the ice watching the boys practice. they would be leaving for a road trip tomorrow morning, the first time since pat and jon's fall out. i wondered how that would turn out, considering they were roommates for away games anyways.

although i wish i could go to dallas with them, i knew there was probably very little chance of that happening. so i focused on the practice, and spotted pat with his blonde curls sticking out of his helmet. i saw him look around, and his eyes locked with mine, which brought a bright smile too his face. which then caused jon too look at him strangely, and then at me, and back at pat.

"pat pass the fucking puck!" jon yelled.

pat was soon snapped back into reality, and quickly finished the drill with his teammate. as the whistle blew, jon skated up too pat and mumbled something. it obviously wasn't anything good, telling by the annoyed look on patrick's face.

as coach q called the boys in for one last talk before they went into the locker room and stripped off their gear, i headed too the outside of the locker room to wait for patrick.

standing against the wall, my phone buzzed.

text from; patrick 💘

come in the locker room

text too; patrick 💘

gotcha

i pushed open the doors of the room, and was greeted by a bunch of sweaty and not too lie, smelly guys. most smiling up at me, and me smiling back. i walked over to pat, sitting next too him.

"so how was practice?" i asked him.

"it was," he hesitated "good."

"i saw what happened with jon," i said nonchalantly, "what'd he say?"

"doesn't matter." he grumbled, unlacing his skates quite roughly.

"seriously, tell me." i argued.

"just something about paying attention. and not getting too distracted."

i scoffed. "he can't tell you what to do, you know that, right?"

"well, dani, he's the captain and at practice, he kinda can." he said.

rolling my eyes, i replied, "whatever."

"it's okay dani, really. want to go out for a late lunch?" he asked, grabbing my hand and tracing shapes in my palm.

"sure!" i beamed.

"okay cool, just follow me in your car to the resteraunt."

"okay, i'll meet you outside." i said.

as patrick left the room, i took it as my opportunity to walk up to jon, who was just finishing taking off his gear.

as he caught my gaze, his facial expression soften for a slight second, and then hardened again.

"i don't understand why you can't be happy for me. just get over yourself jon, okay? not everything's about you." i said angrily, and left the room to go catch up with pat. climbing into my car, i drove away and into the resteraunt's parking lot, parking next to patrick. i got out, and walked into the resteraunt, hand in hand with pat. we sat down at a booth, across from each other.

"patrick, what are we?" i asked him, glancing up from the menu.

"something wonderful." he replied back, smiling.
