"Am not afraid of storms, for I am learning to sail my own ship"
Louisa may Alcott
The morning was heavy with scent of the earth and rain as if the land itself was reluctant to let me go. I stood in the airport ready to start a new tale. A ne w heaviness washed over me. I had dreamt of this moment for years, the acceptance letter in my pocket was proof of my success. Standing at the brink of departure made me realise that leaving wasn't about crossing continents but leaving the sift embrace of the Ugandan homeland.
Father hugged me as soon as I left the car and a particular statement hit me "don't be like me, don't get into politics" my heart was in turmoil as it had a mixture of both excitement and fear for the new adventure. I would miss the warmth of the African sun, the feel of the earth beneath me. I stepped into the plane, first class (*obviously) and took a seat with one look at the lake shore, I whispered "I'll be back but first I must grow" someone sat next to me and greeted me "beautiful country isn't it" I looked into his blue eyes something I had never seen before and replied, "Yes it is".
