"You may say I'm a dreamer, but am not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us"

- John Lennon-

the sun filtered through the curtains as I sat in the sanctuary of the library reviewing the e-mail that I had received a few minutes earlier inviting me to oxford provided I got an A+ in the exams in two weeks time, they were offering engineering a field I had always loved since I liked building things both in real life and in my imagination. It was inviting to join a community of thinkers, innovators and dreamers like me but with the wave of excitement too came a wave of uncertainty. The prospect as exhilarating but which branch would I pursue as the field loomed large obscured by the unknown.

My mind raced with circuits and sleek machines all so inviting. Mechanical, electrical, civil and aerospace what would I choose? With each thought doubt crept in, how I would succeed in a field dominated by others, could I carve out my niche amidst established brilliance. Home schooling had nurtured my independence yet joining a renown institution felt like standing at the edge of a precipice, the vastness of the opportunity was both thrilling and terrifying. Irene joined me and I told her of the opportunity before me and together we embarked on brain storming what field I would love to pursue.

Taking a deep breath I imagined myself strolling through the historic halls of Oxford, surrounded by peers who shared fervour (if I ever got any). What if I did something I liked instead, something green instead, something environmental.

With renewed clarity, I got out a pen and started to jolt down my thoughts the fear began to dissipitate I had chosen to forge my own path and I found joy in that and I realised discover was better than destination. It was time to pull up my sleeves alot of work had to be done.
