The two beings led him to a village. The buildings here looked like they were made from stones and stucco. Most were bulbous, with that bluish-green grass used to thatch the rooftops, and open windows without glass. The scenery was downright medieval.

Everyone here had some variation of skin tone and hair color, but all of them sported those swirling patterns on their bodies. Like intricate tiger stripes.

As soon as they were spotted, Kade was swarmed. He panicked at first because he couldn't understand their language, and they all seemed to have no sense of boundaries as hands patted him down, pulling his shirt up and grabbing his hair.

"Please don't do that!" He tried pushing them off, but these people were much stronger than him, and thanks to their language barrier, he had no way to explain his position. Luckily the being who had first escorted him here helped pull him away from the crowd.

He followed very close behind them after that, fearing that he'd be swarmed all over again if he got so much as two steps behind. They ultimately arrived at a large bulbous house, with many more beings residing within. No matter how much he stared, he couldn't identify what gender they were.

A much taller being emerged from the building and folded their arms. Their hair, like everyone else's, was floating around as though underwater, although a few braids were held down with what looked like heavy stone beads.

The conversation between the two was fast, and hard to follow. Kade could hardly tell one word from another, let alone pronounce some of them as their language sounded a lot like hissing noises. Eventually, a hand on his back ushered him inside where the other residents stared him down with interest.

There were 8 more beings in here. The large room had a bench along the far wall, and some tools leaning against the left corner. There was a makeshift desk with planks of wood used as a surface atop more farming tools, but it looked like it was mostly used to measure the green grain that other beings brought in with baskets.

"Hello?" Kade greeted the room, causing a chorus of hushed whispers over his odd dialect.

The being that led him here kneeled as though he were a child, and started speaking. He shook his head to indicate that he had no idea what they were saying, so they pointed to the bench and made a hissing sound.

Kade repeated the sound as best he could, and they nodded.

Then a hand in his hair had him jumping away as another person snuck up behind and began to touch him.

It wasn't an inappropriate touch. It was more like they were curious as to why his hair didn't float like theirs did. Or why he lacked any sort of markings whatsoever.

As a matter of fact, as unique as all these otherworldly beings seemed to be from each other, none of them were as unique as Kade was.

He was soon lead through a back door and shown an empty room with a rough cloth on the floor. This served as their idea of a bed, and they pointed, making another hissing sound. Kade repeated, and earned another nod.

His best guess right now was that he had gotten lucky and was found by a particularly kind soul who took pity on his situation.

To them, an odd looking creature showed up, not knowing a word of their native language, and could easily have been a threat.

If this were earth, he had a feeling his fellow humans wouldn't be so kind to someone so different.

Reminded of his recent tragedy, Kade frowned. There was nothing he could do about his betrayal now. And the odds of building a portal from this underdeveloped world were slim. So at most, he could wait and see if the facility found a way to retrieve him. Although his mother and brother would worry where he had gone until then...
