Prince

Hyunjin felt like Prince Charming, forced by his father to stand in a grand hall full of families and their daughters to chose his future wife.

Did normal people have more freedom about this? He wouldn't know since he was homeschooled in his parents' palace on specific things they approved. Relationships was something he'd only learnt by observing his parents. He had made a mental list.

"Listen to understand, not to talk, and protect to love, not to demean." His father had told him years ago, and it always stuck in his head.

Hyunjin wasn't necessarily a Prince, since his parents weren't royal, but he was considered one. His parents were the richest couple in South Korea, and also the most popular and loved. They were treated like royalty and lived in a palace, ofc he was a prince.

But every smile has it's secrets. His parents may have been a power couple, but they were cruel parents. They had never let Hyunjin leave the castle unless it was for public appearances and to maintain their good image. Doctors, teachers, stylists, servants, and chefs, their staff was vast.

Not that Hyunjin knew that, he just assumed that all parents meet their child once a month to make sure their kid isn't dead.

He had a diary, tucked away under his bed in his huge room. It had multiple entries, each one detailing a moment where he encountered his parents or got to talk to them. He'd been writing since he was six, though arguably, those entries were gibberish.

He was eighteen now, and his parents decided that Hyunjin was educated enough to take over their company, but they needed to get him a wife.

Hyunjin wasn't really sure why he was the youngest one in the hall.

One thing though, he was excited about, which was seeing his parents. They had been visiting less often now, despite living in the same residence. This diary entry would be really long.

"Do you see anyone you like yet darling?" His mother asked and continued, "They're all from good wealthy families, and we've talked to our business advisor, any of these would be good for the public image, so you're free to chose whoever."

"Why do they keep trying to touch me?" Hyunjin asked feeling uncomfortable with the weird stares and the brush of hands on his back, arms, chest, neck or face. His mother laughed, "They like you."

Hyunjin chuckled nervously, "Ok?" He didn't like anyone in the hall. Not that they weren't pretty, but their characters. Some didn't treat their parents nice, some kept throwing used napkins or half eaten food on the floor, some were staring at him weirdly, and some were just trying to manhandle him.

He felt like a flower getting trampled by a stampede of horses, each horse trying to get to an imaginary finish line.

And they talked so much, they'd introduce themselves and ask how he was doing. Did normal people talk this much? Nobody had talked to him so much before. He'd always have to poke and prod to hear someone's voice.

And they all had phones? He'd seen his parents use one, he'd seen the staff use one, and he'd read about how they work in his technology lessons.

But he'd never held one. And he was quite sure that was an embarrassing thing since one of the girls called him a grandpa for not being able to tell the time from the phone.

How'd he know that he was supposed to double tap the screen when he had learnt in his classes that it turns on with a power button? That phone didn't have a power button.

He was starting to think something was wrong with him.

Two hours in, and he was starting to feel overwhelmed. He felt useless and dumb. He'd read every book he'd ever seen, and yet he didn't know enough to make a simple conversation. He had liked a girl a little, but he stumbled on his words so much that she left after flipping him off.

Some prince.

Hyunjin sat at a table, waiting for his parents to stop talking to the foreign minister so he could tell them to end the 'party'. He was starting to feel really sad.

He fiddled with his fingers quietly when a girl accidently tripped and fell in front of Hyunjin. Hyunjin stared at her back, she was wearing a blue shirt with black pants, and her long blond hair hid her face. he squinted a bit, her body didn't look like a girl. The girl stood up and said, "Sorry."

Hyunjin startled when he saw his face, she was actually a he, but it was nothing compared to how he startled when he heard the blond's voice.

Hyunjin said, "What's on your face?"

The boy tilted his head, "What do you mean?"

Hyunjin tilted his head as well, "They don't look like pimples, are they freckles?"

The boy blinked and gave a nod, "Obviously."

Hyunjin said, "Why are you here?"

The boy said, "I'm attending for my sister, making sure she doesn't make a fool out of herself."

Hyunjin stared at him. Hyunjin said, "Have I met her yet?" The boy nodded, "You passed her, but don't worry, she wasn't interested either."

Hyunjin nodded. "I'm Felix." The boy stated. Hyunjin nodded again.

Felix sat down next to Hyunjin and observed the hall as well. Hyunjin smiled, Felix didn't talk to much.

"Wish boys could be with boys as well." Hyunjin thought in his head, blushing slightly.

But oh well, he'd never seen that happen, so it was probably another one of his defects.
