As Meredith helped Cam work on some paperwork, they got the results back from D.C.'s fingerprint dragnet and the results came a devastating blow— no match.
Over at FBI headquarters, Laney's best friend, Leila Karter, stopped by to speak with Booth and Bones. "Agent Booth, Dr. Brennan," said Leila as she approached Booth's office door. Booth and Bones replied, "Yes?" Leila answered, "My name's Leila Karter— Laney was my best friend." Bones said, "We're very sorry for your loss." "Thank you," Leila replied with a small smile. Booth asked, "What brings you here?" Leila said, "I thought you would like to know that Laney told me that some guy she worked at the lab with was stalking her and sending her threatening emails the week before she disappeared." "Did she tell you his name," questioned Bones. Leila replied, "No." "Did she tell you what the emails said," inquired Booth. Leila pulled out her phone, pulled up the emails that Laney had forwarded to her, and handed it to Booth. The emails read:

Subject: You're gonna be sorry

You are an inferior lab tech and your technique is worthless. If you know what's good for you, you'd turn down that promotion. If you don't turn it down, you'll
Be sorry that you ever met me and that you ever came to work at the lab. P.S. If something were to ever happen to you, you best believe that I'll be the one behind it. Watch your back, Laney, for you have been warned. Goodbye for now.

Laney, Laney, Laney, you shouldn't have done that. I told you not to accept the promotion, but you did it anyway. You are going to learn the hard way that when I make a threat, I stick by it and I don't stop until I see it through. You disobeyed me and you must be punished. I'll see you next week at the lab's Halloween party. I heard that it's going to be "killer." P.S. Say your final goodbyes now, Laney.
"Did Laney ever mention labman1990@yahoo.com's real name," Booth inquired. Leila cried and shook her head no. "Do you think these emails are the key to Laney's disappearance and murder," asked Bones. Leila replied, "I don't think so, I know so." Booth and Bones nodded. "Please," said Leila, "just find the person who killed Laney."
Booth replied, placing his hand on top of Leila's, "We're going to get the guy who killed Laney— I promise." Leila smiled. Bones said, "We're going to get him— I promise." Again, Leila smiled. Booth and Bones brought a sobbing Leila into their embrace. As Leila turned to leave, Booth said, "Thank you for coming in today, Leila, I know that must've been hard for you to relive what happened to your best friend, but we're doing our best to do right by Laney, to solve her murder, and to catch her killer so he can't hurt anyone else." Leila smiled, embraced Booth, and replied, "Thank you, Agent Booth."
