The next afternoon at Laney's funeral, Laney's 16-year-old sister, Danica or Dani, read the eulogy. It was in the form of a poem that she had written titled "Guardian Angel."
"Guardian Angel"
My sister was an angel on earth,
And now she is my guardian angel.
There's not a day that goes by,
That I don't think of her smiling face.
She was always there to make my tears dry,
And was always there to be my saving grace.
I miss our talks,
I miss our movie nights.
I miss our endless SVU and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman marathons,
I miss our karaoke sessions in the car.
I miss our days spent baking together,
I miss us crying, laughing, and dancing together.
Even though I can never get those things back,
I can live knowing that we had the best of times together,
And I can live knowing that she will forever be my guardian angel.
Laney's best friend, Leila sang hers and Laney's favorite song, "I Can Only Imagine."
I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk by Your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes would see
When Your face is before me
I can only imagine
Yeah
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for You Jesus
Or in awe of you be still?
Will I stand in Your presence,
Or to my knees, will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of you be still?
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of you be still?
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees, will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine
I can only imagine, yeah-yeah
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine.
