The cigarette she was holding slipped from her fingers like butter, and the lit end brushed against her calf. A sharp shiver ran through her body as the brief sting of the burn registered. "Fuck!" Nicole cursed to herself. Today, Nicole wasn't her usual self.
With only two months left in the school year, she finally started taking her academic progress seriously. Despite her efforts, the best she could manage over the past few weeks was barely a 2.0 GPA. To her, school had always felt like a pointless chore—an educational prison where kids of all types were kept because their parents couldn't monitor them during the day. It wasn't that bad of a chore to repeat though, she had more fun in her lifetime during her time at Lake Braddock Secondary School. True, boys kept hitting on her and girls were being envious of her good looks, but she still had fun even if she only had two people she could call friends.
However, she had been there and seen that. Even pills of perc and xan weren't filling in the gaping hole in her chest, shot by a bullet called boredom. She craved a new experience that wasn't another pill or substance. Horror movies proved futile; not even the goriest scenes made her flinch. Reading had been dismissed ages ago—most stories featured a male hero and a helpless damsel, a tired trope she couldn't stand in her own life.
Jecka stepped into her room, immediately noticing the chaos Nicole had left behind. Clothes were scattered across the carpet, but the preppy girl cautiously avoided stepping on them. Nicole was bundled up in her warm blanket, enjoying the lazy comfort of a Saturday morning.
Jecka held up her flip phone, the screen glowing as she brought it close to Nicole's face. "Care to explain this text?" she questioned, raising an eyebrow. Nicole sighed, clearly annoyed.
Nicole shrugged and pushed the phone away from her face. "I was bored, simple as that," she replied nonchalantly.
Jecka raised an eyebrow. "Usually, you'd be talking about shoplifting clothes from Hot Topic or planning some kind of downfall for someone at LHS."
Nicole smirked faintly. "Usually, it's just for the adrenaline rush," she said. "But lately, I've had something different on my mind." Her eyes flicked over to Jecka, hinting at an unspoken thought. "Say, Jecka wanna have sex?" She said that in a casual, nonchalant manner as if it were nothing big. Jecka's eyes widened at that unexpected question.
Jecka stammered, "W-Why would you even ask that?" Her cheeks flushed a deep red as she tried to hide her face behind her hands.
Nicole's voice softened as it drifted off, "Just to feel something..."
Jecka: "This is a little too sudden, Nicole. I'm not sure how to feel about that. I know you always humor about having abusive lesbian sex, but.." Nicole closed her eyes, letting out a huff.
Nicole shrugged it off, her voice flat. "It's fine, don't worry about it. It was a stupid question anyway. Forget I said anything." She shuffled her feet together, curling into herself as she rested her head on her knees, her hands holding them in place.
Jecka shot her a sharp look. "You can't just sit in your room all day watching Mythbusters on your phone!" she snapped. "You need to get some fresh air, catch a little sunshine."
Nicole: "And be hit on by older men twice my age? No thanks."
Jecka: "Well, me and (Y/N) were on our way to the Mall, would you at least want some Starbucks?"
Nicole: "Dairy Queen."
Jecka: "Chocolate or Vanilla?"
Nicole smirked, still wrapped in her blanket as she turned onto her side to face Jecka. "Just mix both flavors together," she suggested casually. Jecka shrugged before leaving Nicole to her own devices, shutting the door behind her.
