Beyonce Knowles
March 4

I walked back into my office and sat down to check some
emails and design plans. Today was an easy, but kind of stressful day, I had a feeling it was going to be one of those days. I logged into my computer and then my phone rings, and I see Kelly's name.

"Hey, Kel."

"Bey, I felt so bad doing that," she says, sounding tense.

"It's just business, Kelly," I reply, trying to keep it light.

"No, Bey," she presses. "Your feelings are involved, and you know it, you're being petty and unfair."

I pause, keeping my tone steady. "I know what I'm doing, Kelly. I got this."

She sighs. "It's not fair to take an opportunity like that from her. She's in my class right now mad as hell. She's not stupid, Bey.. and it look like she ready to beat some ass, hope your old ass can run fast."

I'm quiet for a moment, then reply, "She'll come find me and me and her will talk"

"You are sooo..." she sighed. "Nevermind, fix this shit" she hung up. I sighed and went back to what I was doing until my door opened slowly, ugh...

"Ms. Knowles," my receptionist's voice comes through the intercom, calm but formal, "your lawyer has arrived. She's waiting to speak with you."

I pause, taking a moment to gather my thoughts before responding. "Thank you. Send her in."

A knock on the door brings me out of my thoughts, and I look up to see Amelia Blake, my lawyer, walking in with a friendly smile.

"Hey, Beyoncé," she says, giving me a nod as she steps in. "Good to see you again. So, I'm hoping I'm here for something not too bad?"

I stand, extending my hand. "That's the hope," I reply, shaking her hand firmly. I sit back down as Amelia takes the chair across from me, her eyes focused, waiting.

After a minute, I finally break the silence. "Alright... So, here's the deal. I did something pretty impulsive when I was 25. I got married, and... I never went through with a divorce."

Amelia raises an eyebrow but stays quiet, letting me continue.

"It was for someone I was close to—her name's Sade. She's from South Africa, and at the time, she really wanted to come to the U.S. The fastest way for her to get here was for us to get married, so... we did," I say.

Amelia nods thoughtfully, her expression softening. "I see. So, this was a marriage of convenience, essentially."

"Exactly," I say. "At the time, it seemed like a simple solution. But I never imagined I'd leave it unresolved for so long. It just kind of slipped my mind, and now..." I trail off, shaking my head.
