Before the match, everyone thought it would be a one-sided game.
Whitney's team was full of top athletes, all skilled on the field, while Soren's team only had seven players.
They were a mixed bunch, some of whom barely knew how to play soccer, including a few girls who had never even learned how to kick properly.
But soon, everyone witnessed Clark's extraordinary performance.
Clark and Soren both played as center forwards.
The 6'3" tall Clark seemed tireless as he sprinted up and down the field.
His tall body moved with surprising agility.
He dribbled the ball effortlessly, like a flash of lightning.
Whenever the opposing players managed to catch up and tried to block him, he would make a quick, sharp turn, dodging around them with ease.
Then, he would skillfully pass the ball to Soren, who came running in at full speed from behind.
Soren smoothly received the ball, and Whitney was already closing in from behind, ready to steal it.
Just as Whitney was about to kick and take control, Soren quickly winked at him.
In half a second, he lifted his foot as if giving Whitney a chance to strike, but at the very last moment, Soren tapped the ball with the front of his foot, pulling it back.
Whitney completely missed and ended up slipping and falling hard to the ground!
The perfect fake-out drew gasps from the crowd, followed by a wave of cheers.
Soren grinned playfully and quickly passed the ball to Clark.
Clark received it and dribbled past the opposing players with unbelievable speed and agility.
It seemed like he crossed the midfield line in just a blink, and with his right foot, he launched the ball toward the goal!
The black-and-white soccer ball soared in a high arc toward the goal.
The goalkeeper stood no chance.
The ball came at him with such power that even though he made a desperate dive, all he could do was watch helplessly as the ball shot into the net.
As the ball hit the back of the net, the crowd erupted in even louder cheers, like a wave crashing down.
It was nothing short of a miracle!
No one could have predicted that Clark Kent, the usually clumsy and quiet guy, would turn into such an unstoppable force on the field.
This game had become the "Clark Kent Show."
No matter what tricks Whitney's team tried, they just couldn't stop Clark from scoring one lightning-fast goal after another.
The game turned out to be completely one-sided, but surprisingly, the underdog was Whitney's team.
When the final whistle blew, the game ended with an overwhelming score of 11-0.
Whitney's team was exhausted, some of them even cramping up, while Soren's team was calm and relaxed.
Soon after the game started, it became clear that all the offense and defense could be handled by Clark Kent alone, allowing Soren's teammates to sit back and enjoy the show.
Amid the cheers and applause from everyone on the field, Soren glanced at Clark, only to find that Clark was already looking for him.
Their eyes met in the air, and Soren's blue eyes sparkled with joy.
He knew that, despite Clark's incredible performance, it hadn't been easy for him.
Clark had to control his strength to stay within human limits, which required a lot of effort and precision.
But Clark managed it flawlessly.
This proved that Clark could participate in sports just like any other boy, right?
Soren couldn't help but give Clark a brilliant smile.
When he smiled, his small, pearly teeth showed, like a little creature that just found a sweet berry.
It was an indescribably adorable sight.
Clark watched Soren's smile, and for a moment, it felt like his super hearing vanished.
All the sounds around him—the cheers, the whistles, the chatter, the honking of cars, the crunch of bicycle tires on the pavement, the birds chirping in the trees—faded away.
All that remained was the sound of his own heartbeat, pounding in his ears.
His heart raced like a drum.
He was completely mesmerized.
It was as if the force of destiny and time came crashing toward him in that very moment.
...
Even though Whitney had lost to Soren in front of everyone, he was still the school idol.
After the game, several girls who admired him gathered around, offering him water and towels.
Whitney, clearly embarrassed, quietly slipped into the crowd as everyone was leaving.
He wiped his hair with a towel, showing only a silent, side profile.
It seemed he had no intention of honoring his bet.
Soren hadn't even gotten a chance to talk to Clark when he spotted Whitney trying to slip away quietly.
Without a second thought, he ran over and called out, "Hey, wait! Don't rush off—you're forgetting something."
Whitney froze in place, his back facing toward Soren.
"There were a lot of witnesses earlier. You didn't forget what you promised, right?" Soren pushed.
Whitney clenched his fists, clearly irritated.
He spun around, ready to grab Soren by the collar, but Clark stepped in first, gently placing his hand on Whitney's wrist.
Clark's large hand covered Whitney's.
It was a broad, solid hand, with sharp knuckles and neatly trimmed nails—an ordinary boy's hand at first glance.
Yet, the sheer force it held seemed like it could crush a mountain or overpower a lion, filling the air with a quiet, overwhelming strength.
Whitney slowly turned his head, staring at Clark in disbelief.
His wide eyes locked on Clark's face.
His whole body trembled, as if sensing a danger too terrifying to comprehend.
Soren, meanwhile, rose onto his tiptoes and whispered in Whitney's ear, "The whole school knows Kansas University accepted you early because of your soccer scholarship. But what do you think would happen if they found out you're a bully who picks on other students?"
Whitney's face instantly drained of color.
His ears twitched from the tension, and he yanked his hand back.
Glancing at Soren with a look of frustration, he gritted his teeth and took a deep breath.
