Yn sat quietly in the corner of the grand dining room, her eyes fixed on the ornate silverware that adorned the table. She was always the one overlooked in the family, never receiving the attention that was so freely given to her twin sister, Yena. Even though she was born two minutes earlier, it always felt like Yn was the one who had to take the backseat.
"Yn, why aren't you helping your sister?" her mother’s sharp voice broke through her thoughts. "Yena is still not feeling well. You should take better care of her, as the older sister."
Yn’s fingers tightened around the glass of water in her hand, the cool liquid offering no relief from the bitterness that was creeping inside her. She had always been the healthy one—the one who never needed extra care—but it was never enough for her family. They always had eyes for Yena, who was fragile and weak, and yet, it was Yn who had to carry the burden.
"Take care of Yena, Yn," her father added, not even glancing her way as he took another bite of his meal.
Yn was used to the indifference. It had been like this for years. When she was sick, no one cared. When she was tired, no one noticed. Her mother and father only paid attention to Yena, always telling Yn to be the responsible one, to be the one who helped, who sacrificed.
It wasn’t fair.
But Yn had learned long ago not to voice her frustrations. Instead, she worked harder—managed the family business, took care of the household duties, and stayed out of the way. All while watching Yena, the one who barely lifted a finger, get everything she wanted.
Her heart felt heavy, but Yn buried the emotions deep down. She couldn’t afford to let her family see the cracks in her smile.

Later that evening, when Yn was curled up in her room, a knock at the door interrupted her quiet reflection.
"Yn, your sister needs you," her mother’s voice called from the hallway.
Without a word, Yn stood and walked toward the door. She wasn’t surprised—this was just another one of those moments where she was expected to step up and put her sister’s needs above her own.
She opened the door, and as always, she put on her best smile. "Yes, Mother?" she asked, her voice steady despite the storm brewing inside her.
"Yena needs her medicine. Can you give it to her?"
Yn didn’t hesitate. She nodded and made her way to Yena’s room, where her twin sister lay in bed, looking pale and fragile as always. Yn didn’t let herself feel the sting of envy. She had long since learned to hide it.
She handed Yena the medicine, her voice soft. "Take care of yourself, Yena. I'll be in the study if you need anything else."
Yena didn’t respond. She barely ever did. But Yn didn’t mind. This was her role—to take care of everything while Yena got all the love and attention. The family was happy that way.
But Yn was getting tired of it.
As she turned to leave the room, a quiet thought echoed in her mind: One day, I will leave all this behind.

Little did Yn know, that day would come sooner than she expected.
