I watch the sun start to set in Chicago from the roof of an abandoned multi story parking lot.
"Thought I'd find you here." Erin's voice breaks the silence as she approaches me. I just stay silent. My legs dangling from the barrier I'm sitting on. Erin sits beside me.
"That must have been hard for you,to see the boy that killed Lexi." Erin comments. I let out a breath.
"The younger sibling should never go over the age of the older sibling. Unless they're elderly but that's different.Even then it feels wrong." I mumble. "You're probably the only one that I know that would understand that, because of what happened to Justin." I add. She nods."Look, I know that this hurts,Jas. trust me I do. But you've gotta move past it. I'm not telling you to forget about her or forget about what happened. I'm asking you to move on from it. It's not healthy keeping it all pent up." She advises. I unbutton by shirt and she sees the burns for the first time.
"It's hard to move on from something when you have a constant reminder on your body." I tell her. She looks at the burn that gets cut off a little by my sports bra. I redo the buttons on my shirt.
"I hope the fucker gets what he deserves." I growl. I get off the barrier and leave Erin there.I wake up to my alarm going off a week or so later. My sixteenth birthday. I grab my pre-prepared duffel bag from my wardrobe and then change into an oversized black T-shirt and some leggings. I grab the note that I prepared yesterday evening and I put it on my bed. I then leave the house quietly and spot a car. I get into it and they drive me to the airport. I hug Erin once we arrive at the airport.
"Thank you guys, make sure my dad's okay for me,please."I ask them and they nod.
"Always,"Hank replies.
"Take care of yourself Sas,"Erin tells me. I nod and get out of the car. Hank hands me my ticket and passport from his window.I get through security and make it to my plane on time. I board and take my seat. The plane ride doesn't take long and soon I arrive in Florida. I leave the plane to see a group of teens that have gotten of different planes heading over to a man that has a sign for the military school.I join them and we get into the minibus with the military school's name on it. The bus makes a few stops for the kids going that live in Florida. After a few stops a girl with bright red hair gets on and sits next to me.
"I'm Emira Langston,"She introduces herself.
"Jd," I reply.
