I show the burner phone to Vanessa and we leave Kade's room. We enter the living room and I put the phone on the table.
"Look we don't care if you do drugs or whatever but we need to know if your son was involved." I state. The dad looks at me like a deer in headlights. "Your kids could be in serious danger." I push.
"I run for some guy in the two-threes." The dad admits. "When I'm not we'll brought Kade offers to help me out." He explains.
"What is the name of your last customer?" I ask him. He grabs his burner phone from his pocket.
"Daniel Covence." He replies. His wife just looks at him with a betrayed expression.I spot a red hoodie on the back of the couch.
"Was this what Kade or Alicia was wearing that day or the day before?" I ask picking it up with a glove.
"It's Kade's favourite hoodie." His mother replied with a small smile. I put it in a plastic evidence bag and do it up. "Do you have something that Alicia has worn recently that hasn't been washed yet?" I ask the mother. She gets up and goes to the kitchen returning with a sage green shirt with the words 'mother's daughter' on it. I open another evidence bag and Mrs Johnson places the shirt into the bag.
"Thank you mr and Mrs Johnson. This will help." I tell them. I hand them my card and Mrs Johnson follows us to the front door and let's us out.I then register that the woods is a decent place to try and hide from people. I tighten my vest from my car as I think. Vanessa does too, following my lead.
"Let's search around the house before we leave. You never know." I tell the others who nod in agreement.
I walk around for a little bit until I find marks that seem to be deliberate.
"Smart kids," I mumble. Vanessa looks at me confused. "Jay open the kennel!" I shout over to the brunette that's leaning on my car. He does so with a confused look. I let out a sharp whistle and Maude is immediately at my feet with Atlas. I open the two bags and they both shove their noses in and get both the scents.
"Get ready to run." I tell Vanessa as she comes closer. "Buscar(search)." I command the two dogs who sniff around for a bit. I take this time to make sure I have nothing loose and that the bags are closed and in a zip up pocket. Maude and Atlas bark which gains my attention before they take off through the woods. Vanessa and I bolt after the two dogs. I put my hand to my radio.
"5021 Zulu, I am in persuit with two K9's that have a lead on the missing kids. Detective Rojas is with me!" I shout through my radio as I run. "We are heading north east from their family home towards the business park and local college!" I add.
"Copy that 5021 Zulu. Backup is en-route." Dispatch confirms. The dogs slow to a stop outside an old run down warehouse. It's been taped up and boarded off to the public.
"5021 Zulu, heading into the warehouse on ****** street." I talk into my radio quietly.Rojas and I unholster our guns.
"Maude,Atlas, quédate(Maude,Atlas, stay)"I command the two dogs. I check one of the doors,it quietly clicks open. I look to Rojas who nods and we head into the building. I grab my flashlight and put it on top of my gun. We clear the rooms on the first and second level before going up to the third and final floor. We hear talking and crying. We take both side of the door. I kick the door and point my gun at the offender while Rojas goes off when she hears a scream.
"Chicago Pd! Do not move!" I shout at the offender. He man reaches for a gun on a table. I jump on him and we roll around for a minute until something hits my chest...
