FREEN'S HOUSE

Freen is sprawled on the couch, his head resting on Becky's lap. Becky is gently stroking his hair, her face filled with love and concern.

Becky: (Softly) You okay, Hon? You seem quiet.

Freen: (Sighing) I'm just... tired. It's been a long couple of days.

Becky: (Kissing his forehead) I know, baby. You need to rest.

Suddenly, Becky's phone rings. She glances at the screen, a flicker of worry crossing her face.

Becky: (Answering the phone) Hey, Boss. Yeah, I'm good. How are you?

Freen sits up, his eyes following Becky's movements. He knows that look. It's the look Becky gets when she's about to receive some big news, usually work-related.

Becky: (Continuing, her voice becoming more serious) Really? That's amazing! I'm... I'm honored.

Freen's heart sinks. He knows that look. It's the look of someone who's about to get offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Becky: (Sighing) I... I don't know what to say. This is... this is incredible.

Freen: (Whispering) Babe, what's going on?

Becky: (Turning to Freen, her voice filled with concern) Freen, I need to talk to you about something.

Freen: (Hus voice trembling) What is it, Becky?

Becky: (Taking a deep breath) My boss just called. They're sending me to another country.

Freen: (His eyes widening) To another country? Why?

Becky: (Explaining) It's a huge opportunity. They're opening a new branch, and they want me to lead it. I can't say no to this, Freen.

Freen: (His voice filled with worry) But Becky, what about us? What about everything we talked about?

Becky: (Putting her arm around Freen) I know, baby. I'm so worried about leaving you. But this is something I can't miss.

Freen: (His voice breaking) I... I don't know what to do.

Becky: (Sighed)

EVENING

The apartment is neat, but feels strangely cold.  Becky, sits at the kitchen table, meticulously packing a box of her belongings.  The air is thick with unspoken tension.  Freen, sits on the sofa, scrolling through her phone, pointedly ignoring Becky.  The silence is punctuated only by the occasional rustle of packing materials.

Becky: (Quietly) Freen, can we talk?

Freen doesn't respond, continuing to scroll.  Becky sighs, placing the box down.

Becky: (Slightly louder) Freen, please.

Freen finally looks up, her expression tight and distant.

Freen: (Coldly) What?

Becky: About my job offer… in Canada.  I know you're not happy about it, but…

Freen: (Interrupting) Happy?  Happy isn't the word.  I'm devastated.  You're leaving me.

Becky: (Softly) It's only for a year.  And it's an incredible opportunity. I've always dreamed of this.

Freen: (Scoffs) Your dreams… What about my dreams? What about us?

Becky stands up, approaching Freen cautiously.

Becky: Freen, please understand. This is my career. My future.

Freen: (Turning away) Your future.. Doesn't seem to include me.

Becky reaches out to touch Freen's arm, but Freen flinches away.

Becky: That's not true. You know how much I love you. This isn't about you not being important.

Freen: (Muttering) Then why are you leaving?

Becky: Because I have to chase my dreams.  And I thought… I thought we could make this work.  Long distance isn't ideal, but…

Freen: (Interrupting sharply) But what? But you're willing to risk our relationship for a year in Canada?  That's what I'm hearing.

Becky looks down, defeated. The silence stretches, heavy and uncomfortable. Freen returns to her phone, her back to Becky.  The camera focuses on Becky's pained expression, highlighting her loneliness and the growing distance between her and Freen.
