Misunderstanding

It's been a week since Moon was admitted to the hospital, but I still stayed by his side the entire time. They let me sleep in the room that he was in, and he was so happy about it. He even had to go into an emergency surgery. I don't know what for, but I will admit, it scared me. I couldn't think about anything else but Moon. He was my one and only. I woke up in a hospital chair, inches away from Moon. I reached over and held his hand, closing my eyes again. I felt so horrible for him. This was my fault. If I had just stayed home like he wanted me to, he'd be fine. Maybe a little scuffed up, but other than that, fine. I wanted more than anything to have him hold me again at home where I could help him.

This was the first time I saw him so damaged. I didn't like it. He was supposed to be mean and scary, not broken... and defenseless.

"Sss... S-su-Sunny..."

I heard Moon call out to me. I got up as fast as I could and gave him my full attention.

"Yes, Moony? Are you okay? Do you need anything? I'm here."

"I'm fine... j-just... a little pa-pain. I'm okay, I promise. I just needed you. Sorry."

"Don't be sorry, Moony. I'm here for you. I'm gonna help you with whatever you need. You're hurt. I'm gonna take care of you. You're my partner."

I took his hand and lightly kissed it. Moon smiled.

"Thanks, Sunshine."

"For what?"

"Being here with me. Not leaving me, just because I'm hurt. You didn't leave me."

He pulled his hand back, looking away like he did something wrong.

"Sorry."

"Stop saying sorry, Moony! You shouldn't say that all the time. You have no reason to. This was my fault, not yours. I'm the one who kept begging you to let me go with you. I was selfish. I'm sorry."

Moon laughed. He grabbed my hands and put our foreheads together. I buried my face in his neck. My hot breath made Moon shiver.

"Look at us," he said, still laughing. "We need to stop apologizing to each other so much. And Sunshine, just so you know, you never do anything wrong. It's not your fault this happened. It's mine for not being careful."

He made me smile. I kissed his warm neck and hugged him lightly.

"I love you."

"I love you, too."

I tried not to put my weight down, so I didn't hurt him, but he pulled me into another hug, this time tighter. He kissed my head and neck over and over. I blushed deeply. There was suddenly a knock on the door, and Moon and I looked up. I got off of him and stood next to his bed. The nurse that I met yesterday came in and greeted us good morning, with a smile on her face.

"Good morning, Nevaeh."

Moon replied. I just stood by his side in silence as I looked at the ground. I let go of Moon's hand. I didn't want people to start thinking things about Moon and get him in trouble.
