I woke up, hearing a beeping. I opened my eyes and saw I am in a private hospital room with a heart monitor, breathing tube, and feeding needle hooked up to me. I saw Alyss asleep in a chair next to my bed.
"Alyss." I say loudly.
"Raven? Raven! You're okay!" Alyss wrapped her arms around me, tears streaming down her face.
"Where are we?" I ask.
"We're at Bronson ProHealth hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan. What's the last thing you remember?" Alyss said.
"I remember being in a car with mom. We were laughing at lyrics to a song and then someone crashed into us and I hit my head. That's all I remember." I answer.
"That was a six months ago." Alyss said.
"I've been in a coma for six months? Six months?!" I say, flabbergasted.
"Yes." Alyss said.
"Where's Ben and my parents?" I ask, suddenly realizing it's just the two of us.
"Ben is in your mom's room. Dean is getting food." Alyss answered. "Do you want me to call him?"
"Please." I answered. "I want to talk to him."
"Alright." Alyss dialed dean's number. "Hey Dean. Raven woke up and she wants to talk to you. Here she is." She handed me her phone.
"Daddy?" I say.
"Raven, it's really you. How do you feel?" Dad asked.
"A little tired ironically, but otherwise I'm okay." I answer.
"Do you want some food? Whatever you want, I'll get it." Dad said.
"A crunch wrap, no tomatoes from taco bell and a root beer. Thanks." I said.
"No problem. I'll be there soon." Dad said. "I love you."
"I love you too dad." I gave Alyss her phone back.
"Well, miss Braeden, how are you feeling?" A nurse came in.
"Hungry and tired, mostly, but alright." I answered.
"That's pretty normal for a comatose patient." The nurse said. "My name is Jane. I'll get this stuff off of you."
"Thanks. I really appreciate it." I said.
"Now, when will the father be arriving?" Jane asked.
"Right now." Dad walked in.
Alyss climbed into the hospital bed with me and she and I cuddled while dad and Jane talked about my condition and mom's. When they talked about mom's I was fully alert. I wanted to know how she was doing. She took the brunt of the accident, and was more injured than I was. She's still recovering but she's recovering well. They predict she'll make a full recovery and wake up soon.
"Raven?" Dad said my name like a question.
"Yes dad?" I said.
"Here's your food." Dad handed me a taco bell bag.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but, Lisa Braeden has woken up." Jane said.
"Can we all go see her?" I asked.
"Yes. I'll take you to her." Jane said, then led us down the hall.
"Hey mom. Hi Ben." I said.
"Raven. What happened? I remember we were in the car listening to the radio but that's the last thing I remember." Mom said.
"Neither of us was paying attention and someone hit us from your side of the car." I said. "You really don't remember that?"
"No, I don't. I must've entered the coma then." Mom said.
"Must have." I said. Ben woke up, got up, and hugged me. We embraced a little longer than we usually do, but I had just come out of a six month coma. We all went back to the house and my parents started planning the wedding. Alyss and Uncle Sam moved in instead of Ben, mom and I moving into the bunker. The house is plenty big enough and I'm happy that we're staying here and not moving there, Michigan is nice. Plus Alyss' parents are in Kansas.
