The night was quiet, too quiet, as Jungkook sat on the small balcony outside his room, knees pulled to his chest. The moonlight fell softly over the fields, stretching far and wide, but it brought him no comfort.

Tomorrow, he would be gone.

Inside the house, he could hear Mr. Kim and Mrs. Kim trying so hard not to cry. Their whispers were muffled, but he knew they were breaking inside, just like him. They never asked him to stay, never said a word to make it harder for him, but he knew they didn't want him to leave. They loved him like their own, and he was leaving them behind, breaking their hearts.

Jungkook hugged his knees tighter, burying his face. Tears streamed down his cheeks, silent and heavy.

“It’s not fair,” he whispered to himself, his voice cracking. “Why does it have to hurt so much?”

“I don’t want to go... I don’t want to leave,” he whispered to himself, his voice lost in the night. But what choice did he have? He had a whole life waiting for him back in Seoul, a company to take over, responsibilities he couldn't run away from forever.

But the thought of leaving... it was suffocating.

This village was nothing like the world he came from. In Seoul, he was the wild child, drawn to the thrill of underground races, speeding through the city with the wind in his hair, surrounded by men with cigarettes and the roar of engines. It was a life filled with noise, chaos, adrenaline. And yet... it felt so empty.

Here, everything was slow, calm, peaceful. The sound of Mrs. Kim's TV playing in the background, Mr. Kim singing in the kitchen as he cooked, their silly arguments over who loved him more... it was a life he had never known he needed.

And then, there was Taehyung.

God, Taehyung.

Jungkook’s heart clenched painfully at the thought of him. The deep voice, the soft laughter, the way Taehyung's eyes would sparkle whenever he did something mischievous. Taehyung, who pretended to be mad whenever Jungkook caused trouble but always ended up smiling in the end. Taehyung, who made him feel seen, made him feel like he was home , just by being there.

How was he supposed to leave that behind?

Jungkook wiped at his tears, but they kept coming. He thought of the bridge over the canal in Taehyung's farm, the streets he had wandered so many times, the kim eatery where he had spent countless evenings with his five very mischievous disciples, he chuckled at that . He thought of Lisa, his now best friend, the one person who understood him without words.

He had found a family here, a place that felt like home. But he had no right to stay. What title did he have to stay? He was nothing but a spoiled brat who had barged into their lives, who had taken and taken without ever giving anything back.

“I’m just... a burden,” he choked out, his voice breaking as he remembered all the months he had spent here, all the memories he had made. He didn’t want to go back to the lonely crowds, to the fast-paced life that had once thrilled him but now felt so hollow. He didn’t want to leave the slow, quiet mornings, the sound of laughter, the warmth of a home he never thought he’d find.

But he had to.

Jungkook’s chest heaved with silent sobs as he realized that tomorrow, everything would be gone. The life he had grown to love, the people who had become his family, the boy who had stolen his heart... he would have to leave it all behind.

Tonight, Taehyung sat alone in his room, drowning in the heavy weight of his own misery. The thought of Jungkook leaving felt like a wound that refused to heal.

He finally gathered the courage to leave his room, his steps slow and hesitant as he made his way to Jungkook’s. He stood outside the door for a minute or two, taking deep breaths to steady himself before turning the knob. The room was empty, just as he expected. Taehyung knew exactly where to find him.

On the balcony, Jungkook was curled up on the swing, lost in his thoughts, staring up at the stars. Taehyung quietly stepped outside and sat down beside him. The swing creaked softly under their combined weight, but Jungkook didn’t move. He kept his gaze fixed on the night sky, afraid that if he looked at Taehyung, his resolve would crumble. He didn’t want to cry, didn’t want to embarrass himself by saying anything that could ruin the beautiful connection they had built.

“So… you’re  leaving tomorrow,” Taehyung spoke, his voice low and a bit shaky as he rubbed his palms together awkwardly, eyes also focused on the stars.

“Hmm,” Jungkook hummed, still looking up.

Silence wrapped around them like a heavy, suffocating blanket.

Taehyung chuckled softly, trying to mask the pain in his heart. “I hate stargazing... alone. ,” he confessed, as if sharing a meaningless secret would keep  conversation going .

Jungkook finally turned his head, his doe eyes meeting Taehyung’s with an intensity that made Taehyung’s breath hitch. Those sparkling eyes, always so full of life, were now tinged with sadness.

“Why?” Jungkook asked softly, searching Taehyung’s face.

Taehyung swallowed hard, his throat tightening as he tried to hold back the tears. “I… I don’t know,” he whispered, quickly looking away as if the stars could offer an answer. “Maybe… maybe I just wanted someone to stargaze with. So it doesn’t feel so… lonely.”

Jungkook nodded slowly, turning his gaze back to the sky. “See the polar star?” he pointed with a soft smile, trying to lighten the mood, but his voice trembled.

Taehyung watched Jungkook’s profile, a soft hum escaping his lips. “Yeah… I’m looking,” he whispered, his words too faint for Jungkook to hear.

For a moment, they simply sat there, side by side, the world outside the balcony fading away. The night was quiet, save for the distant sound of crickets and the occasional rustle of leaves in the breeze.

“I used to stargaze with my mom,” Jungkook said suddenly, his voice breaking the silence, a hint of nostalgia and sadness creeping in. Taehyung turned to him, surprised by the sudden confession.

A tear slipped down Jungkook’s cheek, but he quickly wiped it away, trying to hide his vulnerability. “When I was little… on nights like this, she’d take me outside. We’d lay on the roof of our old house, just staring at the stars. She used to tell me… that one day, I’d find someone to stargaze with, someone who’d make me feel… like I was never alone.” His voice faltered as he spoke, a soft sob escaping him.

Taehyung’s heart clenched painfully as he watched Jungkook struggle to keep his tears at bay. He could almost see it—the small, wide-eyed Jungkook, lying under the stars with his mother, her soft voice soothing his fears, promising him a future full of love and warmth.

Jungkook took a shaky breath, his eyes clouded with emotion as he continued, “She said, ‘When you feel alone, look at the stars. Those million little stars will accompany you and make you less lonely.’”

Taehyung’s eyes softened as he watched Jungkook.

“I guess... it’s just me and the stars now,” Jungkook  whispered, his voice barely audible.
