A few months later, right before Christmas, I sat cross-legged on my bed, wrapping presents. I looked down at my present for Harry and smiled as I thought about what had inspired me to give it to him.
"Do you want me to put some makeup on you?" my mom asked as I checked out my reflection in her mirrored closet doors. I was wearing a fairly tight black dress and a pair of black flip-flops.
"Sure," I said. My Aunt Rachel is a photographer and she was planning on taking my picture outside of my grandma's house for practice. As soon as we got there anyway.
I sat on the edge of my mom's bed and let her put a little foundation and a little eyeliner on me.
"Are you sure you don't want anymore than that?" she asked. She knew my answer, but she always asked anyway.
"Yes, mother, I am sure," I said, making sure every word was clear.
Then there was a knock on the door. "Could you go get it? I'm not finished getting ready," my mom said.
"Sure."
I walked down the stairs, thinking about how much I did not want to answer the door. "Harry!" I exclaimed as I opened it. I jumped into his arms. He caught me and I held on tightly, partly because my feet were off the ground and partly because I was really excited. "What are you doing here?" I exclaimed.
"Surprise!" he said. He put his hands on my waist and gently set me back down. "Now let me kiss you."
He kissed me, both of us smiling. I wrapped my arms around his neck. He pulled away and I jumped at the chance to know why he'd come.
"Now tell me why you're here!"
"Aren't you happy to see me?" he asked, pretending to be offended. He turned around and started to walk back off my porch. I grabbed his arm.
"Don't you dare leave."
"The boys and I just finished up the tour-" he started.
"I know," I interrupted.
He widened his eyes at me. "Would you just let me finish?" I nodded my head. "We finished touring in California and I came here to visit you for a few days before I have to head back to England," he said. He waited for me to say something. He playfully rolled his eyes at me when I didn't respond.
"I'm finished. You may speak now."
I grinned and jumped back into his arms. He already knew me so well. I sniffed his cologne-scented-neck and then told him, "I'm so happy you're here."
"Hey Jules, are you ready?" my mom called, starting down the steps. "Who was at the d-" my mom started. "Oh, hi Harry. What are you doing here?"
"Hey, Natoli," he said. "I'm visiting for a few days, if that's alright. Where are you guys going?" he asked.
"Of course it's alright. You can come here anytime," she started. I'm sure she would have told him where we were going but I jumped in.
"Could you call her and cancel?" I asked my mom.
"Yeah, I can," she said.
"What are you canceling?" Harry asked. He was talking to anyone who would answer him.
"We were going to go to my grandma's so Rachel could take my picture," I explained. "But mom'll cancel it. So what should we do today? How long are you here for?"
"You don't have to cancel it. I'll come with you."
About a half an hour later we jumped out of my mom's van.
