A week had passed and Avery was helping with the fence.
They had to finish it as soon as possible
because Wells Jaha had been found dead, probably killed by the grounders.
At that moment Avery was teaching
Charlotte how to tie firewood properly, she liked that little girl because she didn't complain and learned quickly.
A boy who was carrying a branch
fell to the ground exhausted.

- Hey! You think the grounders will
just stand around and wait for us to finish the fence? Do you want me to have the little girl fill in for you?- John asked, pointing to Charlotte.

- I just need a drink, okay?-
The boy replied, trying to catch his breath while wiping his sweaty forehead with his hand.
- I'll be fine then.-
- Murphy, get him some water.-
Bellamy ordered with a slightly annoyed tone.
He had decided to become the leader of the criminals, but the dark and bluish color he had under his eyes
proved that it was not an easy task,
and his lack of sleep was having a great effect on his mood, which was getting worse day by day.

- Hey, are you going to take care of it?- He asked Charlotte, pointing to the branch.
She moved forward without hesitation.
- Come on, I was joking.- The eldest of the Blakes said, smiling.
- Wait, I'll do it.-  Avery said, putting
a hand on Bellamy's arm to get his attention.
The boy shifted his gaze between her and the branch a couple times before speaking.
- Are you sure?- He asked skeptically as he watched the girl carefully
in front of him.
Her clothes were all crumpled
and partly covered in mud, her hair was more messy than it had been during
their first meeting, and her eyes were surrounded by dark circles, but he still found her beautiful.
- Of course.- She replied with a mocking smile, taking the branch without hesitation to bring it to the boys who were making the fence.
- But, how...?- Bellamy said, looking at her for a couple of seconds in amazement, then he recovered and hurried to her side.
- You doubt?- she asked, amused by the boy's reaction.
- I could never.- He replied,
playing along.

- I'll kill you!- Someone shouted,
attracting the attention of the two boys.
Avery quickly put the log on the
ground and went back.
There was that boy who had
asked for water earlier, who was yelling at John while other boys held him back.
- I wanted some water, right?- Murphy asked mockingly
- Everyone back to work soon.- He then shouted looking at the boys who had
stopped completing the fence, intrigued
by the discussion between John and the other boy.

Huffing she went to retrieve an
axe inside the ship, she wanted to go hunting to think alone.
However, when she came out of the fence she saw Octavia who was helping Jasper to get up.
Avery looked curiously at the other
boys, Jasper had recovered for a week, but he didn't want to leave the
camp because he was terrified of the
grounders, so she didn't understand why he was there with Octavia.
The girl noticed that the boy was
looking terrified at something in front of him, and driven by curiosity he took a few steps forward to see better.
- Oh God- she exclaimed, on the ground there were some severed fingers with a knife nearby.
Avery first helped Octavia pull up Jasper. Then she told the two that
they had to warn Bellamy.

About ten minutes later the three of them found themselves in a tent with
Bellamy and Clarke.
They were all silent while Clarke analyzed the knife.
Jasper and Octavia stared at the blonde
worried and anxious, while Bellamy and
Avery seemed to be the most calm,
even if the girl continued to wrinkle her nose annoyed by Clarke's presence.
She didn't understand why she was there, no one had told her anything because they didn't need her, but as soon as the blonde had seen the group of boys gathering inside the tent with a suspicious look she demanded to know what had happened.

- This knife is made from the
ship material.- She stated confidently, handling the weapon with extreme care and delicacy.
- What do you mean?-  Jasper asked with a slightly shaking voice.
- Does anyone else know?- Bellamy asked instead.
- No one, we brought everything here.-
Avery replied, pointing to the severed fingers collected in a piece of cloth.
- It wasn't the grounders who killed
Wells, it was one of us.- Clarke said, shaken.
- There's a killer in the camp.-
Jasper said, fearful.
- There's more than one killer
in the camp, this is nothing new,
let's not say anything.- Bellamy said firmly.
Avery  nodded in complete agreement,
they would only get chaos and fear
by telling the truth.
Clarke tightened her grip on the knife and tried to get out of the tent, but Bellamy blocked her path.
