Davis' pov

We were texting back and forth, and everything was going great and then she told her about my past. It had me seeing red no woman should ever be treated like that. After that, she got quiet and didn't text me back for a bit and it had me overthinking, wondering if I had done something wrong. Did I overstep? I didn't know what to do or say now. This beautiful woman made me laugh and smile and feel alive for the first time in so long and now she may be gone because I screwed up like always.

"Did I do or say something wrong?" I asked because the silence was killing me.

"No, I just have never talked about what has happened to me. I do want to talk about it but not over text."

I decided to do something crazy, and video called her, but I was scared because she didn't know what I even looked like. What if she thought I was a loser? What if she thought I wasn't worth her time? My insecurity was at an all-time high. I decided for now not to show my face because I was just too scared of her rejecting me.

"Hiya." She said timidly like she was just as nervous as I was.

"Hey." I said, thinking the videos and pictures didn't do her justice she just had this natural beauty about her, and it intimidated me.

"Well, this is a nice surprise and that twang of yours very sexy voice." She said and her blushing just put me at ease, and I started to calm down. She just had this way about her.

"Why thank you Darlin."

"Okay you can call me that any time you want."

This woman was making my heart skip a beat. I have been single a long time and haven't even thought about it until now. Now I really wanted to make her mine. I had to take things slow because she is fragile and so am I. We have both been hurt and neither of us need to jump headfirst into anything, but she makes me want things I had long given up on.

"Well, I will remember that." I said trying to be flirty.

"I guess it's time for me to start talking." She said sounding sad and I wanted to put a smile back on her beautiful face.

"You don't have to I am here not going anywhere so you take your time."

"I was young and dumb and got married to get away from my family that didn't treat me right. I wish I could say I married for love, but I didn't. I thought he was a nice guy. I mean he was until he got the ring on my hand. Then everything changed. He would cheat and not care if I knew or not. He would scream at me constantly and for no reason other to watch me flinch. He would hit the wall next to me then laugh when I got scared." She stopped and I could tell she was crying so I let her have a minute.

"You ok baby girl?"

"Yea sorry just needed a minute. At first, he would hit things around me which was bad enough then when I wouldn't let him near me, he would force himself on me then he would hit me but only in places where no one would see the bruises. He was a monster. The day I left he choked me and tried killing me. I was lucky to get out with my life. I have never told anyone what all he did to me yet here I am telling a stranger about it all and yet I feel as if I have known you forever."

"Darlin I am so sorry you had to go through all of that, but I promise you now no one will ever hurt you again."

"Don't make a promise you can't keep Kentucky." She said with so much pain in her voice and I decided then and there to show my face because she needed to see the truth in my eyes.
